Please improve Linux support

I was forced to switch from Cursor to Windsurf by Codeium on Linux because Cursor doesn’t have a package and repository for automatic updates, and it doesn’t have any built-in capabilities for system integration. Even simple things like “open with Cursor” or desktop and taskbar icons in Cursor have to be done manually.

There’s also this issue where the Cursor window displays an extra, non-removable bar at the top that duplicates functionality (minimize, maximize, close).

Please take a look at how Linux support is implemented in Windsurf and improve Cursor accordingly! Updates via the repository are amazing, and system integration is also essential.

Thank you for the great IDE; keep up the good work!

That’s why it’s best that you make and test a script that fits your environment, or copy something like this:

Just thought I’ll join with my 2c.
I have been trying to evaluate Cursor on Linux for the last couple of months, and it’s been a buzzkill, and have been going back to VSCode..
imho distributing this as an AppImage is hindering a lot of what I can do with it, and the decision seems like just ticking the linux support box..
I understand business priorities, probably there are more devs using Mac, and probably they potentially will be paying customers, but a lot of devs use Linux and VSCode support there is fantastic.
Quite a shame.

This is absolutely something which should be done by the Cursor team - it makes no sense for every Cursor user on Linux to have to reinvent this same wheel.

We are working on an apt repo

What distro are you folks using?

That’s great! At minimum you’ll need to provide an apt repo and an rpm repo - those two should cover a large chunk of distros.

I’m on openSUSE which is rpm-based like Fedora.

https://openbuildservice.org/ is a great way to automate building of packages for all distros, although you would have to set up your own OBS instance since the public one only supports building of FOSS.

Ubuntu in my case.

Linux Mint with Cinnamon DE

Fedora here

Fedora here as well. Definitely been dealing with annoying AppImage issues
