I’m currently on the $200/month Ultra plan (legacy) and have exhausted my included usage for additional models, specifically Claude Opus 5.5.
Since I can’t wait until my next billing cycle, I’m wondering whether it would be more cost-effective to create a new account and purchase another $200 Ultra subscription, or simply pay for additional usage on demand on my existing account.
Would both options provide roughly the same amount of Opus 5.5 usage for $200, or does a new Ultra subscription offer significantly more usage for the price?
On-demand usage on your current account is the better option for Opus 5.5. A second Ultra subscription wouldn’t give you more Opus.
New accounts can’t buy the legacy Ultra plan anymore. A new account starts on The X Subscription, and its Ultra plan ($200/mo) doesn’t include any third-party model usage. Claude models there are billed at API list price from prepaid credit, from the first request. So $200 on a new account would get you Grok and Cursor model usage, and you’d still pay for every Opus request on top of that.
On your legacy Ultra, on-demand usage is billed at the same API list price per model. You can turn it on and set a monthly spend limit at cursor.com/dashboard/spending. Your Other Models pool refills when your billing cycle renews.
Thanks for replying. Just a quick follow up: Can you confirm the actual dollar-equivalent value of the Other Models allowance on my existing $200 legacy Ultra account? I’ve seen reports of legacy Ultra accounts receiving approximately $125 of API-priced usage instead of the previously advertised $400. Is my account receiving $400, $125, or another amount?
@Colin following up on HorrorDev’s question, since I have the same issue.
I’m on Legacy Ultra (USD 200/month, paid directly, never switched to the X Subscription). Last cycle (Sep 10 to Oct 10) Other Models reached ~100% after about USD 456 of usage at list prices. This cycle it hit 98% after about USD 100 on the same models. Cursor Models is at 26% and on-demand is off, so nothing is spilling over.
On Oct 13 you said Legacy Ultra keeps third-party usage “as it is today”, and yesterday you confirmed the Other Models pool still resets each cycle. Could you confirm whether the size of that pool changed for Legacy Ultra, and since when?
My support ticket (T-I425) was escalated to a human on Oct 20 and I haven’t heard back. Thanks.
