Question about changes to long conversation handling — old “start new chat” button is gone, replaced by a token usage bar, wondering if this affects speed, token usage, or context continuity

Describe the Bug

Previously, when a conversation became too long, a small “+” button appeared, suggesting to start a new chat while carrying over the current conversation’s context. This button is now gone. Instead, there is a token usage progress bar for the current conversation. I used to start a new chat when the bar was almost full, but I recently noticed that this bar seems cyclical/automatic.

Steps to Reproduce

1.	Start a long conversation in Cursor.
2.	Observe that the “+” button no longer appears when the conversation grows long.
3.	Notice a token usage progress bar appears instead.
4.	Keep chatting until the bar fills — it resets automatically instead of requiring a new chat.

Expected Behavior

When the token usage bar reaches its limit, either:
• Automatically carry over the conversation context to a new chat (like before), or
• Provide an option to start a new chat with the current context.

Additional Information

•	In this new mode, if I don’t start a new conversation, will response speed become slower?
•	Will token consumption be too large?
•	Does the automatic mode still work like the previous “carry over context” feature?
•	Should I still worry about starting a new conversation manually?

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. Although this functionality is unavailable, you can try referring to your previous chat, this will give the chat the ability to understand your previous context.

First of all, thank you for your tip. Secondly, I have another question. If I don’t open a new chat box, I see that his token usage seems to be cyclical. Will my previous prompt words be missed?First of all, thank you for your tip. Secondly, I have another question. If I don’t open a new chat box, I see that his token usage seems to be cyclical.
