I am a loyal user and I would like to ask, if I choose Auto mode, it means unlimited usage, but if I use it too much, the model will automatically switch. Or do we still charge for exceeding a certain amount?
At present, the descriptions I have consulted are quite vague.

Hey @Sounean good question.
Quick summary:
- Auto mode has its own separate usage pool (together with Composer 1.5). It doesn’t use your API budget.
- The API pool (USD 20 on Pro) covers other models like GPT-5.4, Opus, Sonnet, Gemini, etc.
- Neither pool is truly unlimited, but Cursor won’t slow down responses or reduce quality. When you hit a limit, you’ll be prompted to upgrade, enable on-demand pricing, or switch to Auto.
