Regression Chat history UI in 2.6: can't delete, rename, see current selected agent chat

I’ve just got the 2.6 update, this new chat history UI is the worst since Cursor release in my opinion, and despite numerous “don’t mess up the UI” threads, we still get weird UI thing updates.
I almost felt like putting this thread in the bug section.

When clicking on the chat history icon, the only option now is to “archive” chats.

I can’t even anymore quickly:

  • see the current selected agent/chat (in order to rename/delete)
  • rename agent/chat
  • delete agent/chat

You don’t even know where are the archived chats.

I’m honestly trying to understand how this was even validated?

I agree.

The archived chats are only found in the agents side bar.

But you first have to be in the new layout mode, which requires clicking on this double arrow (if you see it)

If you ever want to go back to classic layout with the double arrow, have to press Ctrl+E (windows) or Cmd + E (mac)

Thanks for opening a request.
I see now, it was an agent sidebar “in mind” update with collateral damage for users with the chat tab.

Yes it’s tedious now, having to swap layout etc…, just for deleting/renaming or check archived chats, when it was a 1 click operation before.

Yep, happens to me as well, frustrating to use Editor Mode now with chats on a sidebar.

Thanks for the quick response and for taking care of this!

by the way @msfeldstein @Colin just throwing an idea, not sure of the feasability how easy/hard it is.

On the long run, wouldn’t it be easier and better to replace the floating chat history UI by a floating Agent pane UI?
It would reduce the burden of maintaining different UIs for the same thing for Cursor engineers.

The agent pane is nice but accessing it, is more cumbersome (without shortcut) when in editor mode. The floating UI advantage is that it preserves the width of the screen, only appears when needed, versus having a static agent pane that we have to toggle on/off everytime.

Clicking on the chat history icon and having the floating agent pane UI pops, would be equivalent and won’t bother people I believe.

I remember you had the agent pane popping from the right side when moving the cursor to the far right which was a nice idea but it was blocking scrolling and people with task bars to the right.

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I’m reporting a UI regression in the latest version (v2.6.13). It seems that the ability to delete or clear chat history has disappeared from Editor Mode.

Currently, I have to switch to Agent Mode just to find the option to delete a conversation, which is a major friction point in my workflow. Also, the recent update simplified the modes to only two options, removing previous customization flexibility.

Please bring back the “Delete Chat” functionality to the standard Editor/Chat sidebar.

Version Info:

Cursor Version: 2.6.13

Issue: Missing delete button in Editor mode sidebar.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor (v2.6.13).

Ensure you are in Editor Mode (where the code editor is focused and the chat is in the sidebar).

Attempt to delete or clear a chat conversation.

Notice that the “Delete” or “Clear” option is missing or inaccessible in this mode.

Switch to Agent Mode, and observe that the delete functionality reappears.

Expected Behavior

Users should be able to delete or clear chat history directly within Editor Mode, as was possible in previous versions (e.g., v2.4.21), without being forced to switch to Agent Mode to manage conversations.

Great idea. Making the UI as similar as possible would be ideal.

I have created a feature request for this feature. I also liked to be able to delete chats from the chat history view.
