Request to Extend Student Discount to additional countries or universities

I’m facing the same issue. My student email (@uniri.hr) fails SheerID verification simply because it lacks a .edu extension, despite being an official academic email we use for all student benefits.

I’ve contacted our university IT department who confirmed the email is completely valid and part of the AAI@EduHr system. I also attempted to manually upload proof of student status, but unfortunately that option isn’t available.

What worries me most is that I know a large number of students from various Croatian universities facing this identical problem, with no solution in sight. This effectively locks out an entire generation of Croatian students who would love to use your tool.

Please consider addressing this issue

Hi @deanrie @condor I also have a problem, I’m trying to access Cursor Pro with student pricing but running into some issues.

The main problems are:

  1. Philippines isn’t listed in the country dropdown when trying to sign up for student benefits

  2. My school doesn’t provide email accounts to students, so I only have a personal email for verification

I emailed support about a month ago but AI Sam just replied to me “use your .edu account” even though I clearly explained that our school doesn’t provide student emails. I tried emailing again but haven’t heard back yet.

Do you know if there’s another way to get student verification without a school email, or has anyone else faced similar issues with countries not being listed?

Hey, at the moment we support universities from these countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

Thanks for the info @deanrie Unfortunately, the Philippines isn’t included in that list of supported countries, which is exactly the issue I’m facing.

Since my country isn’t supported and my school doesn’t provide .edu emails, I’m stuck in a situation where I can’t access the student benefits despite having all the proper documentation (Student ID, Certificate of Registration, etc.) to prove I’m a legitimate student.

Is there any way to request adding the Philippines to the supported countries list, or an alternative verification process for students from unsupported countries who have valid academic documentation?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer a student discount if your country is not on the list. However, we plan to expand the availability of the discount to more regions, so stay tuned for updates.

Thanks so much @deanrie for the clear explanation and for looking into this! I really appreciate you taking the time to help clarify the situation.

It’s good to know that expanding to more regions is in the plans - I’ll keep an eye out for updates. Hopefully the Philippines will be included in future expansions!

Thanks again for your assistance! :folded_hands:

@user434 thank you for your post.

We can currently support only SheerID validated student accounts with .edu domains but will consider expanding to further domains in the future.

hi @offhachy thank you for your post. We are currently supporting only universities that can be verified through SheerID with .edu. In the future we will consider expanding to further email domains.

They know and they don’t care. They even flag your account if you ask for student access via email, so that even if you send a support request for a completely different issue, the bot will still reply as if you asked for student access. They also completely ignore all communication about the issue, in this forum, on twitter, anywhere. Do not succumb and pay for the subscription - you will be overcharged.

I attend Ontario Tech University in Ontario, Canada. Our university email ends in .net, not .edu. The cursor for students page that lets you verify your status as a student mentions “You must be logged in to verify your student status. Please log with a valid “.edu” university email.” This should be changed to allow universities with email addresses ending in “.net” to register and redeem one year of cursor pro. I saw some other people post about this issue in forums as feedback and also as a bug report, most of those had no meaningful response. One post had a response telling them to email, so I will send an email to [email protected] as well.

You mean you currently only support .edu email regardless of SheerID validation, considering the hundreds that have yet to be validated without an .edu email.

@condor I’m a master student in France and I have the same issue, could you help with my case, too? I’ve reached out via email and it’s the same problem remains. It feels like, even if the company didn’t mean to, a purposeful neglect because not all student are treated the same. Perhaps your Student Program website needs to state it precisely in the header banner or SEO description that only US students are supported?

Here are examples of the email domain of some major European schools that did not include “edu”:

:switzerland: ETH (Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich): ethz.ch
:switzerland: University of St. Gallen: unisg.ch
:france: HEC Paris Business School: hec. fr
:france: BSA (Bordeaux Sciences Agro): agro-bordeaux.fr
:germany: TMU (Technical University of Munich): tum. de
:sweden: KTH(Kungliga Tekniska högskolan): kth.se

Please have your technical team consider prioritising this issue or have your UX/marketing copywriter make the copy accurately reflect the reality.

Thanks.

Totally agree, I think if they cannot fix this issue technically asap, they need to fix the UX/marketing copy ASAP.

hi @paopao currently we can onboard students with .edu email addresses verified by SheerID.

Thank you for the feedback, I have forwarded it to the team.

I am a student in Norway but we don’t have standard .edu emails, I have @uio.no . This is the same for all universities here. Because of this, I am not able to get verified. Can you please help?

hi @joshihritika currently only .edu emails can be verified. We will consider further email domains in the future.

@condor Then why are other countries falsely listed as being eligible? For example, the UK does not, and has never, offered .edu emails. Only .ac.uk is offered.

Has the ID card been uploaded

@condor Finland is listed as eligible for the student free year, but no Finnish university uses .edu emails — we use .fi (e.g., @aalto.fi). This means the offer is impossible to claim here.

If .edu remains the only verification method, please remove Finland (or other countries) from the list or add support for .fi domains to avoid misleading advertising.
