SheerID student verification is not working despite satisfying all requirements

This is less of a bug than it is a quiet cry for help - one of the steps to verify as valid for the Student plan is by having an email address given out by the university, ending with .edu - the problem is, since most of my universities’ infrastructure is running either on Moodle or legacy code, we don’t get .edu emails. What we have is @edu.lu.lv. If you want to verify that it’s a real university, search for Latvijas Universitāte (lu.lv). I’d love to try this offer out, but unfortunately I can’t verify for it and for the projects that I have in mind that I want to build, the two-week trial will not be enough. I’ve already reached out to Support, hoping to hear from them soon. Also, sorry if this is not the right topic category to post this in, I’m new here :).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, on Cursor’s page for the student plan, Latvia is mentioned as one of the countries where the offer IS available.

I am attending an university in the US and having a .edu email. However, in the first step after typing school info and edu email. The page returned an error said that “limited exceeded”, “already claimed the rewards”.

Later on, I found a way in SheerID support page to send the verification email to my edu email address and click the button “Finish Verifying” in the email; however, another bug raised in sheerid page showing that “This verification is expired. Please submit a new verification.”

Then I contacted SheerID support, after more than 24 hours, they replied that I needed to contact Cursor.

Does anyone have a way to bypass the bug?

I registered using my university email from Budapest (bme.edu.hu), but Cursor only provided a 2-week Pro Trial before it ended. I had expected to receive a full year of Pro access, not just a 2-week trial.

Hi! I’m also a BME student and have the same problem. Have you managed to solve it since then?

Describe the Bug

Even though I’m using my official college email ID ([email protected]), I’m unable to access the cursor Student Developer Pack. The system keeps prompting me to use a valid student email address, despite already using one.]

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to Cursor Student Pack page
  • Navigate to Cursor’s student benefits page
  1. Click “Get student benefits” or similar button

  2. Sign in with your account

  • Use your existing Cursor/account credentials
  1. Enter your college email address
  1. Complete the verification process
  • Follow any additional verification steps required
  1. Submit the application

  2. Observe the error

  • The system rejects your email despite it being a valid college email

Expected Behavior

The system should accept my valid [email protected] college email and allow me to apply for the cursor Student Pack.

Same issue here, I wrote to someone from the Cursor team but got ghosted after I mentioned that the UK is on the list of countries eligible, but we don’t have .edu emails here. Did you solve the problem?

same problem…… have you solved it?

Describe the Bug

I have been attempting for weeks to unlock the “1 Free Year of Cursor” being offered to students at degree-granting schools. I am a Master’s student at Brown University in the U.S., I have a .edu email address, and I have never redeemed this promotion in the past, so as far as I can tell, I have met all the requirements of the promotion.

Despite this, I have been unable to successfully verify my student status with SheerID. The first several times I attempted to do so, I received the verification link from SheerID, but clicking the link took me to a page that said there was an error verifying. I eventually contacted SheerID support – not once, but three times – and every agent closed my support request before I was even offered an opportunity to explain my issue. I then contacted Cursor support, but I was simply told to contact SheerID support, which was already not working.

Since I have a second .edu email address provided to me by my department at Brown, I eventually attempted to create a new Cursor account with the other address and attempt the student verification on that account. This seems to have made the problem worse because attempting to submit the student verification form now results in a message that says “Verification Limit Exceeded.” Despite my many attempts to verify, there is still no logical reason why my requests should be declined.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to cursor.com
  2. Click “Sign in” in the top right corner
  3. Select “Continue with Google”
  4. Navigate back to the Cursor home page
  5. Scroll down and click “Students” (under “Product”)
  6. Click “Verify Status” and accept the verification notice
  7. Fill out the form and click “Verify My Student Status”
  8. Check email for verification link from SheerID
  9. Click link in email and be redirected to Cursor’s website, where an unexplained error message is displayed

Expected Behavior

Clicking the link in step 8 (see “Steps to Reproduce”) should result in a successful verification, not an error.

hi @shivamhingorani sent you a DM.

Hi @condor

I’m experiencing the exact same issue as @shivamhingorani described — verified through SheerID, but the “Apply Discount” link just spins and never loads checkout. This has been happening for about a month, and I’ve never redeemed a student discount before.

Were you able to fix it? I’m currently experiencing the same problem. When I use the SheerID FAQ page to try and send an email to continue where I left off, it just leads to a ‘Page Not Found’ error.

@M.A @ElPenguin sent you each one DM.

Hi @conder

I am also experiencing the same issue of not being able to verify, and I cannot make more attempts as I have exceeded the verification limit.

@teribel as SheerID is performing verifications please contact them directly as they control the verification process and errors shown during the process.

We take over once they verified a student.

Can we retroactively apply the student discount?

Hello @condor

I have been experiencing the same exact problems as @shivamhingorani . What further steps can I take as I have already contacted SheerID numerous times?

@LARAMediaGroup the student discount is after verification once it is applied to the Pro account.

@Nikku1 If it is about issue during verification, kindly note that SheerID is processing verification requests only they can provide support for it. Only after SheerID approves then we are handling the student discount.

@Jelly-ai628 could you please clarify what the specific issue is you are having?

  • Were you approved by SheerID? If not, kindly note that only SheerID does the verification process and only they can provide support for that process.

My school is a university in US (ranked among the top 20 universities in the U.S.), and I have uploaded all the required personal information as prompted. When I attempt to verify my student status through SheerID, I encounter an error message stating “Verification Limit Exceeded.” This is my first time trying to claim this offer, so I am confused by this message. I have already contacted SheerID support , but SheerID said “unable to process this verification request”……???My verification request was denied without a clear reason, which I find very frustrating! I am being directed back and forth between Cursor and SheerID without a resolution. I contacted them many many times!! I have tried my best ,Unfortunately, this issue with student verification has significantly impacted my trust in Cursor. I would appreciate a clear explanation as to why my complete and accurate verification information was rejected. look forward a resolution.

Since SheerID provides the verification service, only they can verify student accounts. We are unable to do so manually and do we have insight into your verification status until approved by SheerID.

We have sent feedback to SheerID to not refer support for verification to Cursor.
