SheerID verification error blocks activation of “1-Year Free Cursor for Students”

Attempting to claim the “1-Year Free Cursor for Students” offer fails at the final SheerID screen with the message:

“We are unable to verify you at this time.”
The flow then drops back to the start without any additional guidance.

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Steps to reproduce the bug (consistent for multiple attempts)

  1. Go to [cursor.sh/student] → click Get free year.
  2. Submit school-issued email & proceed.
  3. Fill in required student details → click Verify.
  4. After ~3 s, SheerID returns the error above; cannot continue.

The issue blocks activation of the student license, but the core Cursor editor remains usable under the free tier.

Any guidance on resolving or bypassing the SheerID loop would be appreciated. Happy to provide additional logs if needed (minus personal identifiers).

I got the same problem. The weirdest thing is after this I tried the second time and it said this in the pic:


I cannot understand cuz I actually didnt get the one-year time. I donnot encounter this when I try to get my 2-month ChatGPT Plus or Google Gemini.

Same here. Emailed the support team and waiting for a reply.

I just get the email form Cursor Team and they knew my University is on the approved list but they cannot give me the offer if SheerID doesn’t approve. I emailed SheerID and still wait for the reply. I do believe if this problem exists in wide range then we should all email to Cursor Team and find a way out

You should type your student email with lowercase. I have already resolved by that way

I have the same issue, verification completed but no code provided

I also have the “Verification Limit Exceeded” issue, what happened is that when SheerID approved my uni’s email and then It went to checkout, I saw that it wanted to use the account’s email that I was using on the free trial not the actual email of the uni, I’m so dumb I pressed back and not confirm to make sure I’m using that email and then sadly I coudn’t make another attempt with my uni’s email. I tried several times and I still get the same issue. I also emailed [email protected] still got no reply.

yeah. Same issue. The email came that studentId is verified but then it didnot apply the discount. Now I am logging in with the college email then it is showing this limit exceeded screen.

Guys i found the solution, go to (FAQ Page) and enter your edu mail to this section. This will help you to continue for discount.

I click apply discount button but I still see 20 USD per month in checkout page. Why it is not working?

Looks like we’re all having the same issue. It still tries to charge full price, the discount isn’t applied. I guess we just have to wait until they fix it.
