Student Verification Instructions & Support

Dear students,

To successfully verify your student status and unlock the Cursor Pro student offer, please follow these steps:

  • Start the verification at Students · Cursor after logging in with your student email address in Cursor (must end in .edu).
  • SheerID is Cursor’s verification partner and will guide you through the process. Be sure to submit all required documents and accurate details the first time as repeated submissions are not allowed.
  • For any errors or issues on sheerid.com or emails from @sheerid.com, please reach out to SheerID support directly.

If you experience any issues during verification:

  • Reply in this thread with a brief description of your issue. Do not post your email address or any personal information.
  • Our team will contact you by DM, provided you are logged into both Cursor and the Forum with your .edu student email.

Important:
Posting here does not guarantee that your verification will succeed. Cursor staff cannot manually approve verifications or override decisions made by SheerID. Please do not request manual processing or exceptions, as we are unable to fulfill these requests.

@condor Hi Cursor Team,

I know this is technically a SheerID issue, but I’m stuck and hoping you might be able to help.

I tried verifying with my U.S. university email. Since the system asked for a government-issued ID, I uploaded my visa as an international student, which failed. I then contacted SheerID three times, but each time received the same canned response telling me to resubmit. The problem is that my verification attempts are already exhausted, so I can’t retry.

Later I noticed SheerID’s help page actually asks for student IDs with expiry dates (which is definitely not government-issued IDs). I’ve asked them to unlock my account so I can submit my student ID, but they continue to send the same template reply.

At this point, is there anything I can do to get verified for Cursor? I apologize for raising this here, but I’ve hit a dead end with SheerID.

Thanks for contacting SheerID.

We were unable to process your verification request. While we can’t offer further details or support for this specific inquiry, please ensure all information submitted is accurate and meets the eligibility criteria for future attempts. Your ticket has now been permanently closed.

I have the same issue. These people don’t mention the right document that you have to submit on the submission page. I shared my passport for verification as i have used sheer before to verify my student status for another service and it worked fine. This time they just blocked me. I’m getting the same response when i reached out to Sheer directly.

I applied for student offer before, but the verification email was identified as spam and I did not see it. Now the verification limit is exceeded. I am wondering if I could submit a new verification

The images of my drivers license that I sent in for the submission were not good enough. I reached out to Sheerid and they just said the image was blurry. Now it says the verification limit is exceeded. Can I submit a new verification?

I used my passport for verification, but it didn’t go through. May I ask what method you used to pass the identity verification?

Hello there. I’m logged in with my educational email address in both the cursor and forum. I sent my ID documentation to sheer id, but I never received the verification success email. Now, it says that I’ve already redeemed the promo.

@condor Hello Cursor Support,

I recently verified my student status with SheerID using my .edu email and received confirmation. Once I pressed the link to aply the discount, the student discount was mistakenly applied to my free trial instead of my Pro subscription and I got an error message saying “your payment method is not eligible for a free trial and you must upgrade to a paid plan to keep using cursor”, but the payment still went through and discount was applied to the free trial. I went back to the “apply discount” link and clicked on it and it took me to the pro plan subscription. When I upgraded to Cursor Pro, I was charged the full amount instead of the student-discounted rate.

Could you please adjust my account so that the student discount is properly applied and issue a refund for the overcharge?

Hoping someone can help me out. I just got my student status verified and went to claim the free 1-year Pro plan. At the $0 checkout, I ran into an error message that said: “Your payment method is not eligible for a free trial.”

The Pro plan didn’t get applied, but the bigger problem is that the student offer has now completely vanished from my account page. It seems like the failed attempt used up my chance to claim it.

Submitted my government ID to finish verifying my student status, but the page lead with the status “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID support.”

Contacted support last week and still no response.

I submitted my driver’s license to complete the student status verification, but I received the message: “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID support.”

I contacted support last week but have not received any response. I also tried the verification process multiple times, but it still does not work.

Hi. I am having a problem, I have tried multiple pictures with optimal lighting angles etc. and the images are very clear and readable. Yet every time I get this error… would really appreciate any help. I am logged in to the right account too and have checked for all of those edge cases. Thanks!

I have tried to verify my student status many times but NONE has been successful.

Cursor said it’s the SheerID’s problem.

And I have also contacted SheerID so many times but NO ONE replied.

Can anyone actually solve the problem instead of passing the buck?

Hello,

I have signed up with my .edu email, and got verified by Sheer. I went to my cursor dashboard, but nothing has changed. I went back to sheer, and it says “Verification Limit Exceeded.”

I met error said “error we had trouble validating your id.“ in the final step, I already upload all the requirement doc, like school course enrollment, driver license, etc.
And my edu email is end with .edu and within the united states
