I have the same issue as users @shivamhingorani and others have reported in this thread SheerID student verification is not working despite satisfying all requirements, I think part of the issue is that I had a recent name change and so I have two email accounts associated with my school
I have been attempting to unlock the “1 Free Year of Cursor” being offered to students at degree-granting schools. I am a Master’s student at University of Colorado Denver in the U.S., I have a .edu email address, and I have never redeemed this promotion in the past, so as far as I can tell, I have met all the requirements of the promotion.
Despite this, I have been unable to successfully verify my student status with SheerID. The first several times I attempted to do so, I received the verification link from SheerID, but clicking the link took me to a page that said there was an error verifying. After that, I started to receive errors that I had hit verification limit (but I never was able to redeem the offer). I eventually contacted SheerID support – not once, but three times – and the agent permanently closed my support request before I was even offered an opportunity to explain my issue.
Since I have a second .edu email address provided by UCD due to a recent name change, I eventually attempted to create a new Cursor account with the other address and attempt the student verification on that account. This seems to have made the problem worse because attempting to submit the student verification form still results in a message that says “Verification Limit Exceeded.” Despite my many attempts to verify, there is still no logical reason why my requests should be declined.
Steps to Reproduce
- Navigate to cursor.com on Brave browser or Safari
- Click “Sign in” in the top right corner
- Select “Continue with email”
- Sign in with .edu email
- Navigate back to the Cursor home page
- Scroll down and click “Students” (under “Product”)
- Click “Verify Status” and accept the verification notice
- Fill out the form and click “Verify My Student Status” using same .edu email and valid US driver’s license
- Check email for verification link from SheerID
- Click link in email and be redirected to Cursor’s website, where error message is displayed stating either 1) “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID support.” or “We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. The URL may be incorrect or the page you’re looking for is no longer available.” or “Verification Limit Reached”

Verification for the Cursor Pro education discount through SheerID does not work and prevents access for legitimate students
Steps to Reproduce
- Navigate to Cursor for Students | Cursor - The AI Code Editor and click verify status
- Enter information, upload ID photos
- Receive email from SheerID saying process is almost complete and to click on link to finish verifying student status
- Click link, get taken to screen where I get a message saying error has occurred and to try again.
- Repeat Steps 1-4 until I get a message saying I can no longer try due to verification limit being exceeded.
Expected Behavior
Should be able to finish verification process.

- I have used SheerID to verify numerous other discounts, with the exact same email and Drivers License photos I used to attempt to verify this, and have never run into issues before. This makes me think it’s not my specific situation, but rather something to do with the Cursor discount.
- Contacting the SheerID support team twice has resulted in the exact same message saying they can’t provide details, the ticket is closed, and to try verifying again. However, I cannot do this due to a Verification Limit Exceeded notice when I try to sign up now. I have mentioned this in both support requests and it was not addressed
- Many other people in the forum have encountered similar issues when getting to this ‘finish verifying’ step that they cannot resolve through SheerID support

I’m a valid student, and therefore, I have a valid .edu email address from an accredited college, and my college is listed in Cursor’s student verification dropdown. For two weeks, I’ve been attempting to be verified and only gotten errors; no denial, just errors. It’s been a horrible user experience.
I get the same errors repeatedly. I’ve uploaded a variety of valid legal documents, and have even emailed SheerID my college ID, my passport image, and my driver’s license image. They say it must go through the verification portal, and that continues to error out. I’ve smoothly used SheerID for verification many times before, so this denial of service with no explanation is really annoying.
I see that many others in this forum have brought up the same issue.

I’m starting this thread because I’m fed up, and I know I’m not alone. Like many of you, I’m a student who was excited to use Cursor, only to get trapped in a completely broken verification loop. This isn’t a minor bug; it’s a systemic failure that makes the student offer feel like a disingenuous promise.
My own experience is identical to what’s been detailed in other threads, which proves this is a pattern, not a one-off issue.
Exhibit A: The SheerID Runaround

Here we have a Master’s student who meets every requirement, yet the verification link errors out. After a few tries, the system locks them out. SheerID support? Useless. They just close the ticket. Result: a qualified student is permanently blocked.
Exhibit B: The Cursor-Specific Failure

This user confirms what many of us suspect: SheerID works perfectly fine for them everywhere else. The problem is specifically with Cursor’s integration. They hit the exact same wall: verification error, then locked out for “too many attempts.” Result: another qualified student is permanently blocked.
Let’s call this what it is: a predictable cycle of failure.
We, as legitimate students, start the process in good faith with valid credentials.
The system predictably fails at the final step—the one that actually grants the license. This points directly to a broken integration on Cursor’s end.
We are then punished for the system’s incompetence by being locked out with a “Verification Limit Exceeded” message.
The prescribed solution, “contact SheerID support,” is a black hole designed to close tickets, not solve problems.
So, let’s be blunt. An advertised student discount that is functionally impossible for a significant number of users to redeem feels less like a technical glitch and more like a farce. It’s a marketing tactic that allows you to claim you support students, while the broken gate ensures you don’t actually have to give out many Pro licenses.
We are tired of the runaround. We demand a real response from the Cursor team, not deflection.
Acknowledge It’s Broken: Stop hiding behind SheerID. Publicly admit that your verification pipeline is failing your users.
Provide an Immediate Workaround: Create a manual verification process for those of us you’ve locked out. We can provide our student IDs and .edu emails directly to a human at Cursor.
Fix Your System: Commit to a timeline for deploying a permanent fix to this integration.
Your student users are your future professional customers and advocates.
SheerID keeps on closing my support requests i cannot get verified for cursor pro trial. i have made over 10+ emails but each time they just close them.

Same bug, have a .edu email.
They won’t let us pass the verification, it’s just a marketing ploy. I posted a message saying there’s a problem with the Sherrid verification they’re using, because I’ve passed Sherrid verification on many apps before, but they just hid it. I can only say that there’s a big problem with Cursor’s verification process, but they just play dumb. When you raise issues with them, they’ll just kick you back to Sherrid.

Curser team sent me an email yesterday to reverify my student status. I filled out the form and uploaded my government-issued ID, then they sent me a link showing “we had trouble validating your government-issued ID” and I couldn’t see any chance to reupload my ID again!

Sheer ID always failed to verify my government-issued ID and provided no reason. I can’t understand why they need my ID card. I suspect they don’t have the ability to verify the ID card, and their only ability is to say, “Try again.”
Cursor verify student identities through a third-party platform just so they can easily pass the buck. What they’re doing is like: your iPhone screen is broken, but they say, “Our screens are supplied by Samsung, please go to them.”
Hi @Boghdady9 we partnered with SheerID to verify student accounts. As you see in the screenshot they provide a support URL on their website. Kindly contact them directly to help with your validation issue as Cursor has no direct access to their verification process.
