I had never used vscode before using Cursor so, as Cursor is a fork of vscode, I had to learn about vscode as well as Cursor when beginning this journey (from Sublime Text).
I have quite enjoyed the process and the new features and aesthetics that have come with it.
So in answer to that part of your question, my understanding is that Cursor is vscode, with ‘some things’ added.
