I’m on the $20/month paid plan. The cursor program started out fast but now just typing my instructions into the composer is painfully slow. There is a 5-10 second delay from when I type to when my own text appears on the screen. I’m not even talking about AI processing. It seems the program has grinded to a halt. Anyone else experience this?
Hey, try starting in safe mode with cursor --disable-extensions. If that doesn’t work, try clearing the cache or reinstalling Cursor.
Thank you for the suggestion. I tried all the steps in the link you gave me but to no avail.
I also noticed that in addition to being slow, the intelligence of the AI is terrible. For example I’m asking it to center the text on a page on a program that I had it build from scratch. Even after 10 tries, it can’t seem to make any meaningful changes to the look of the website. Is this normal?
How do you start cursor AI in safe mode?
Open the terminal and type the command cursor --disable-extensions.
I too have the same problem but I have changed my workflow until this is fixed. I am using Wispr Flow (on the Mac) to interact with Cursor. Just hold down the fn key and then speak. It’s different from dictation because it uses AI to work out what you are saying then inserts it. So you can correct yourself mid-sentence, etc. It get’s passed this problem with typing lag and also improves my productivity.
On the positive side it’s a great way to type 150 wpm. On the negative side, a lot of my swearing and frustration with Cursor is sent through my chat but just like any good AI, it all bounces off and it’s supremely patient with me.
disable cursor tab at the bottom right corner, I could not have screenshot when I put the mouse on “cursor tab”, but if you do it, there is a pop up window, you could disable it globally. I did it, now life is changed.
the solution is simple, if you see slow typing, just start a new composer conversation, then it will be as fast as normal. I think the issue after you have a very long conversation composer history, when typing, cursor is doing huge computation to predict code based on the context. the long conversation context consumes too much CPU in the computation. a new start conversation removes the burden.
while a new conversation’s disavantage is losing the history make AI a little humble to what you’re doing. so try to have a good summary at the beginning to resume your work in previous conversaton.
