Describe the request
Hi Cursor Team,
I am writing to bring attention to a limitation in the current Student Pro verification process that excludes many international students, specifically those of us in Rwanda.
I am a Business Analytics student at Kepler College Rwanda, currently working on entrepreneurial and coding projects. My university uses the .ac.rw domain, which is the official accredited academic extension for Rwanda.
I recently contacted support but was told that only .edu domains are eligible for the student plan. This creates a significant barrier for students in Africa and other regions where universities do not use the U.S.-specific .edu extension.
Why this matters:
Accreditation: My university is a fully accredited institution. We have valid student IDs, tuition receipts, and official institutional emails (.ac.rw).
Impact: Access to Cursor Pro is vital for my academic work and my startup. The current policy effectively locks out talented developers in emerging tech ecosystems simply because of their geographic location.
Industry Standard: Other major platforms (GitHub, JetBrains, Microsoft) successfully verify our status using services like SheerID or the GitHub Education Pack, which recognizes our local domains.
My Proposal:
Could the Cursor team consider integrating a manual verification process or partnering with GitHub Education to verify student status? This would allow students outside the US to access these tools and contribute to the global developer community.
I am happy to provide my official student ID and transcripts for manual review if that is an option.
Thank you for building an incredible tool and for considering a more inclusive approach to your global student community.
Best regards,
Merite Mucyo
