Please support non-.edu student emails (University of Zurich, @uzh.ch)

Hi Cursor team,

I’m a current PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Zurich (UZH) in Switzerland, and I’d really like to use the student offer – but I’m blocked purely by the email domain.

  • My official university email is @uzh.ch
  • On the student verification page I see: “Only .edu emails and specific educational domains are eligible for student verification.”
  • Because of that, I can’t even start the SheerID flow with my real student email.

What’s slightly ironic is that my old email from my previous university in Pakistan is on an edu.pk domain and passes the first check, even though I’m no longer enrolled there. Meanwhile my current, valid PhD student email at UZH is rejected at the door.

Support request / proposal

  1. Please add @uzh.ch as a recognized educational domain.

    • UZH is a public, degree-granting university with thousands of CS / data / AI students who would be a perfect fit for Cursor.
  2. More generally, consider expanding student verification beyond .edu and a small fixed list of domains.

    • Many European and international universities use domains like .ch, .de, .fr, etc. without an edu. in the middle.
    • Letting SheerID (or a similar service) handle verification based on enrollment documents, rather than email pattern alone, would make the program much fairer globally.

From my side, I’m using Cursor for serious academic work: research code, data pipelines, and reproducible experiments for my PhD. The student plan would genuinely make a difference on a PhD salary.

I’m happy to provide any proof of enrollment (student ID, enrollment certificate, etc.) if that helps move this forward.

Thanks for considering this – and for building a tool that’s actually useful for researchers. It would be great if non-US students like those at UZH could be officially included too.

As its been mentioned before, when the time arises to support other emails other than edu, we will be let known. Until then we will just have to wait.

hi @smyasir and thank you for your interest in the student program. As @jokerfool mentioned we do not onboard at the moment other regions and student organizations but plan to do so in the future.
