Hi Cursor team,
I’d like to double-check my understanding of the Teams pricing and included usage, because I’m finding it a bit confusing in practice.
From the documentation, my understanding is:
-
Each Team seat costs $40/month
-
Each seat includes $20/month of usage
-
This usage:
-
Is allocated per user
-
Does not transfer between team members
-
Resets monthly
-
Covers agent requests at public list API prices + Cursor token fee
-
-
Only the Enterprise plan supports pooled usage shared across users
If this is correct, then for a team like ours:
-
10 team seats = $400/month
-
Total included usage = $200/month
-
But if only 1–2 users are actively using Cursor, each of them is still capped at $20/month
-
The remaining usage tied to inactive seats cannot be used
This is where the confusion comes in.
From a usage perspective, it seems that:
-
Paying for more seats does not increase the usable usage for active users
-
In fact, a team plan with many inactive users can be more restrictive than just buying a few individual seats
-
The model works best only when all seats are equally active, which is often not the case for research, agentic, or operator-driven workflows
So I wanted to ask clearly:
-
Is my understanding of per-seat usage vs pooled usage correct?
-
For small teams with uneven or bursty usage, is the recommended approach to:
-
Minimize the number of seats, or
-
Use external API keys for heavy users?
-
-
Is pooled usage something that might be available to small teams outside of full Enterprise contracts?
We really like Cursor and are trying to standardize on it, but we want to make sure we understand the intended usage model before committing to a larger Team setup.
Thanks in advance for the clarification — really appreciate the transparency.
