I come back to this after updates and my whole layout is gone. It used to be toggleable back to editor mode, but that seems to be gone now. I can go in an manually put things more or less back where it was, but now I have even less real estate with this obnoxious agents window taking up a bunch of the screen with literally nothing in the space.
Like, first of all someone please explain to me the wisdom behind these changes. Like, People like cursor because it’s vs code with AI integration. What would you get rid of the vs code flow? Why would you force it on updates? Why would you take up EVEN MORE real estate with an obnoxious window when you could EASILY have combined that with the chat window in one vertical window?
None of this makes sense to me. Like, I don’t care if you think agent based coding is the future and the primary feature. I agree. What I don’t agree with is having it shoved into my face and and I do understand why in God’s name you would default to give people even less control by turning off the file panel?
If every other update I’m going to lose my layout and this is the direction you’re heading, I’m cancelling my account. This is obnoxious.
Actually never mind threatening to cancel. I have cancelled. It’s clear you want to throw away your only advantage in favor of your overactive imaginations regarding the future of “vibe” coding. You had a pretty friction free, well embedded product fur actual developers and let your marketing department kill it. Good job.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I get that layout changes after updates are annoying, it’s one of the most common complaints right now.
Point by point:
Toggle Editor/Agent: the visual button was removed, but you can still switch with Cmd+E. Also, there’s a gear icon in the top right where you can customize your layout and save it as the default.
The Agent panel takes up space: in the same gear menu, you can pick the Editor-focused layout so the agent sits in the side panel.
Thanks for trying to be helpful in the response. But, ctrl e just removed the agent panel entirely. I have already gone in and rearranged the interface. The agents window is already on the side, taking up massive blank real estate. There does not appear to be a fix for this at all.
It’s not just about how the UI looks. It’s you pushing the vibe coding over being a serious development tool, forcing UI changes on updates (and not just because it’s annoying, buy because it shows poor judgement on where you are taking this), and the shoddy design of them is new feature in the first place, forcing it to take up completely unnecessary screen space. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that this was pushed out in this state. So easily could be integrated into the same space as the chat panel.
I will actively urge people to avoid this product going forward at every opportunity. So many red flags. The CEO or marketing team responsible for making this decision should resign in shame. You had a chance to be THE tool for real developers and you chose to chase vibe coders. It will be your undoing.
I started demoing windsurf, and the UI they have is very similar to the old cursor UI, I wish Cursor would just go back to the old UI, the new one breaks so often for me that I spend more time trying to get the correct chat window up than actually getting work done.
@deanrie
this new UX where the entire changes of the chat stay in the diff in your face until you COMMIT them to git is ridiculous. If i’ve already accepted the changes of one of the turns, that’s it, it was considered done, and I can peacefully review the diff of each turn at a time. now I cannot review the diff of each turn, only the full entire diff of the whole chat at once, after every turn. This destroys the experience of large cumulative changes in a single chat.
