Treat Cursor in Editor Mode like an editor

Describe the Bug

I have set my Cursor Chat to Editor Mode. When I open a file from the file viewer in the primary sidebar, it results in two Editor Groups. The opened file is on the left Editor Group, and the Cursor Chat is on the right.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open the Cursor Chat. It opens in panel mode by default.
  • Use the menu in the top right to set it to Editor Mode resulting in a single Editor Group with the chat as a tab
  • Open any file from the file viewer in the primary sidebar.
  • Notice you have 2 Editor Groups. The left has the file, and the right has the chat

Expected Behavior

When I’m in Editor Mode my Cursor Chat should be treated exactly like any other file Editor, as the name suggests. Cursor Settings for example behave correctly as an Editor. Opened files should be created in the current Editor Group as an additional tab and not split the Editor Group into two. I’ll create the second Editor Group manually or use Panel mode when I want the Chat on the right.

Unfortunately, you only fixed the specific symptom in my previous request (Treat Cursor Composer in Editor Mode like an editor) instead of addressing the whole Editor vs Panel problem.
