UI constantly resets layout in Cursor 2.0

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Not much to it. Terminal is there one moment, gone the next. I did not interact with it, it just vanishes. Only way to get it back is to go to the Terminal menu, open a new terminal, which restores the terminal panel, then close the new unwanted terminal instance. Happens constantly.

Steps to Reproduce

Just use cursor…

Expected Behavior

Terminal window should stay put as configured unless the user explicitly chooses to close it or change its configuration.

Actually, this is more…extensive… It looks like the Cursor UI is constantly being reset to a default state. It is not jut that my terminal panel vanishes. ALL Panels in the entire ui, are constantly resetting to a preset default. I reconfigure everything the way I like it, and within a few minutes, everything resets again. Its the ENTIRE UI…

@condor @andypeters @deanrie

Well, this is really quite annoying. There seem to be multiple possible triggers for this. I’m not certain that time is one of them, I am not sure exactly what is triggering this, but something is certainly causing the UI to constantly reset to a default state, and I cannot stop it. Sometimes it seems to hold my preferred configured state for a while, sometimes it seems to reset every few minutes. In any case, this makes it very hard to work.

Seeing the same thing.

Hey, thanks for the report. I can see a few other users are experiencing similar UI state issues in v2.0.34, including the terminal disappearing and panel widths resetting.

Could you please try updating to v2.0.40? A related UI bug (sidebar resizing) was fixed in that version: [Cursor 2.0.34] Resizing sidebars nearly impossible

If the layout resetting issue persists after updating to 2.0.40, please let me know and I’ll escalate this to the team along with the related reports from other users.

I was upgraded to 2.0.40 today. Thus far, it seems the layout is stable…but I’ll keep an eye on it.

Hey there, I’m also seeing the issue where the width of the sidebar / terminal / AI panel keep resetting, it’s quite annoying since it seems to reset where the sidebar takes up 80% of my screen width. Any help here would be fantastic :folded_hands:

Here’s my version:

Describe the Bug

When ever I open an edited file or chat with the cursor agent, the right side panel keeps resizing and shrinking. I then make it wider, and then it shrinks again (even without a new file being opened). This is really frustrating.

Steps to Reproduce

Be in the Agent panel mode. Expand the right hand menu. Chat with the agent or open a file.

Expected Behavior

Expected behavior is that the right hand panel width would persist.

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When reviewing the changes that Cursor has made:

  • Select the file to review. The Agent window resizes larger
  • Resize them again manually and complete review of file, select next file to review
  • Agent window again resizes to larger version, squishing the remaining views.

Please note in this installation I am running the plugin that “auto previews” the markdown files (if that makes a difference).

I recorded my screen to display the issue here: [Support] Cursor: Agent Window Resize Issue - TechSmith Screencast

Thanks for any help!

Steps to Reproduce

Ask the agent for something that will update 2 or more files
Wait until they are listed and can be clicked to view.
Click a file name to review
Agent windows resizes and other open panels resize (reduce)

Expected Behavior

Agent windows should not resize unless user resizes with built in drag edge feature

Just curious, is that OMARCHY you are using there? Been really intrigued by that, and am trying to find a space in time here where I can give it a try!

Oh, also, FWIW: 2.0.40, is no longer exhibiting the problem for me. It was very frequent, and seemed as though it could be triggered by a number of things, before .40, but since .40 the ui has remained as I configure it.

This frequent randomization of the Agent window layout is happening for me too.

Still seeing this with:

++very annoying UI exp I am getting too since 2.0 updates

This should be fixed in the latest (2.0.43). We have a few more improvements coming. Apologies.

Heya @andrewh , after installing 2.0.48 and restarting Cursor, in the Agents view my Agents list was on the far right size of the window. I switched to Editor and back to Agents and it returned to the left. But now the actual agent chats are on the far-right side of the Agents panel and I’m not even sure how to move them back next to the chat list. Honestly, it’s a mess.

Hey Alex, this is fixed in our latest release that will start rolling out to users tomorrow!
