Temp fix if your update crashing you can reinstall from AppData
Go to
user/AppData/Local/Temp and look for vscode-stable folder with 46.x exe file
Hey, looks like we still had some code left over that was trying to push people to a broken update - we’ve just deployed a fix, so any updates you get prompted to install from now onwards should work fine!

Right now, I would prefer not to have the agent, or whatever this new change is. It’s much slower than before, and sits and hallucinates back and forth with no outcome for minutes at a time, burning all my tokens in the process.
I would much rather prefer it to be fast and iterate on it. How do I change back to the previous mode? This is version: 0.46.5

Multiple issues with the Windows version of cursor…

Changing between modes (Agent / Edit / Ask) sometimes doesn’t change the icon, if using an agent-compatible model, you’ll only realize after you’ve submitted the prompt.

Adding docs is broken (adding well known docs will work, seems like they are cached by cursor?), always getting the “0 pages indexed error”

Sometimes (is it because of a disconnect? is it because of a rate-limit? No clue since there are no errors), the UI will keep generating forever. The Generating icon sometimes move, sometimes doesn’t. 0 output in both cases.

Failing to use a tool once means it’s the end of your chat: cursor will attempt once, see it failed, retry and exit, failing. Not sure if this is Windows-only since it’s related to sonnet 3.7 but to be noted.

Related to tools, Sonnet 3.7 Reasoning still adds a newline, which was described in the patch notes, breaking the whole agent chat.

Even after a restart, cursor will not let me select folders to be added as context… It doesn’t show up and if I search for the folder name, only exerts from the files in the folder will show up.

Better error explanation would be so much more helpful, everywhere in the code and would help even you understand the root of the issue from reports.
I responded to the in-app prompt earlier today and started using the V0.46. Just logged in now, 8 hours later and it’s gone and I can’t seem to get it back. Is it paused again? The entire conversation is gone, as far as I can tell. I’m back to the annoying COMPOSER/CHAT split 
I’m on 0.45.15, and it says there are currently no updates available. MacOS M1. The download from the website is 0.45.15 as well. How can I get onto 0.46?
I am becoming mentally unstable while waiting for 0.46
why make us this excited and leave us on a Cliffhanger if not for the making 3.7 available i would really disliked this move

Such a terrible release. I hate Ask mode now behaves like agent - screw my repo completely and super slow everything like molasses. No explanation with new naming convention anywhere inside IDE - just put ■■■■ question mark and on hover describe it if meaning changed. You don’t even put a new blog post about this change with explanation. No care about onboarding. You website landing page served me chinese version even though I’m not in china and didn’t have VPN on and was already logged in my browser to cursor.sh so you should known my preferred language is English. Don’t go YOLO mode without proper testing and onboarding paid users and giving better feature release explanation inside the app 
Where is the old chat mode without composer and without agent? I just want to chat and click apply code per chosen code snippet, composer agent or YOLO never worked for me. You guys really need to document it properly in IDE with some explanation and docs. Now we have acronyms: agent, ask, edit inside chat tab and YOLO mode inside settings and with chat tab using ask mode showing me in history using composer. Haven’t seen anywhere more confusing naming convention and considering you reused naming but changed behavior with no blog post or documenting that inside IDE.

I noticed that cursor.aipreview.enabled is no longer a configuration I can turn on? Is that on purpose? The ai preview feature was so handy.
how to find updates inside Cursor?
I was given a prompt in Cursor to upgrade to .46. Unfortunately, the installer started complaining about “unable to close Cursor, please close manually” even though there was no Cursor session open (and did see Cursor processes running in task explorer, which I tried to kill, but they would not die).
I finally had to cancel the install. So now I’m left with Cursor 0.45…and it was no longer prompting for an upgrade. Turns wait if I waited long enough (10 minutes?) it finally gave me an upgrade prompt again - which I selected. But then the problem simply repeated: it claims “Cursor cannot be closed. please close it manually…”. Again, there is no Cursor session open.
How do I get around this?
For whatever reason, rebooting my machine caused this cycle to break. I have now gone through two upgrade cycles…leaving me with version 0.45.15. The “check for updates” button (which wasn’t available before) claims there are no further updates. I don’t know why it doesn’t acknowledge the current 0.46.x update.
