V0.46 Available Now on Mac & Windows!

Cursor update this morning is running into InnoSetup error trying to rename “tools” error, cannot finish update and cursor folder is mainly deleted (the inno installer seems to sit inside the to-be-deleted folder and thus gets os error).
Existing version was 0.46.4, iirc. @danperks

I’m getting the same, just saw the latest update (I was also on 46.4) and got the tools error you mentioned.

The same thing literally just happened to me. Cursor somehow auto-updated and I got the “tools” error. I had to reinstall from the download link and now I’m back at 0.45.X. Very frustrating. Pro User

I’m having to completely reinstall now as well. Also pro user. This is so frustrating.

I got a side question, I am still in 0.45 version, does the tag badge feature added in 0.46? I like cursor most part but just I never see the tag badge, which is frustrating when I want to know how many files are changed from git but in folder view.

Regarding mode usage, I currently appreciate the VSCode addon Cline’s design which is exceptionally clear with only two modes: ‘Plan’ solely for answering questions, and ‘Act’ exclusively for code modifications or terminal command execution when facing the same conversation context and can be swithed seamlessly.

I’d like to propose taking this concept further: What if we eliminated mode switching entirely? If the AI needs to answer questions, modify code, run terminal commands—or handle more complex scenarios combining multiple subtasks in various configurations (such as first running a command, then refining code, adding documentation files, and finally answering the user’s question)—why not make it seamless?

I understand Cursor currently has three modes (Ask, Edit, and Agent), but I suggest eliminating the need for users to select modes. Instead, the system could intelligently respond based on the user’s raw input, automatically determining the appropriate action without requiring explicit mode selection.

Same here. Downgraded to 0.45.

Please provide the Windows version download. In version 45.12, the composer mode is continuously not working and only displays “Stopped” in red text. Meanwhile, the premium usage count is still being deducted.

Downgraded to 0.45.15 and now everything works.

there is not 0.46 version to download

same here

Agent - Fully featured, with tools
Edit - No tools, can only read and write to files
Ask - No tools, no read/write - discussion only

Does this mean Edit = Composer and Ask = Chat? I have no interest in Agent/ YOLO modes the underlying models will not be good enough for those for at least 2 years+ (like lovable/ replit agent etc.) - we need to be able to accept/ reject per segment (which its great at).

Does Edit still suggest the changes overlaid on the code with accept/ reject?

Also what are ‘tools’? I have used Composer for the last 40+ days 12h/ day for context.

How long will the pre 0.46 version be supported so I can know when I am forced into the new system?

Thanks

Hey all, looks like we let a bad update slip through the cracks, reverting it now while we take a look!

Downloads on cursor.com should be working again, with 0.45.15 being our latest globally available version - those on 0.46.x versions will remain there!

The “Edit” mode should work exactly the same as the normal Composer regarding being able to precisely accept or reject changes, so you should be fine to update to 0.46 if it’s available to you!

Hello,
Yesterday, I updated to version 0.46, and everything seemed to work fine. Today, I checked for a new version through F1, and the update process started. However, an error window popped up,

and the cursor stopped working.

I restarted the computer, disabled the antivirus, but nothing helped. I reinstalled version 45.15, started working, and received a notification that a new version was available. I approved the update, and the same error occurred again,

with the cursor not responding. I need to reinstall version 45.15 once again.

same here.
I’m reinstalling 45.15 and cursor start to download 46 version. I’m closing cursor without clicking install update. And it’s auto installing and bricking whole application.

Thank you.
As I understand it, the issue is with the new version that was released today.
