does everybody have the clauder 4 under Usage Based Pricing now? I do not understand why this is now a requirement when it was not so before. Why should I pay extra above the subscription to use the premium models like Claude 4? It does not make any sense. It is better for me to just cancel the subscription and go full Usage Based Pricing anyway, no?
Do you also face the same requirement?
Did you run out of the 500 fast requests? They answered in a different post that for now Claude 4 has no slow resources so you need either free resources or enable usage based pricing. Sounded like there would eventually be slow resources, but not now where everybody is trying to use it
Hey, as mentioned above, yes, if you run out of fast requests, then in the slow pool it is currently unavailable, and you need to enable the usage-based pricing option for this.
However, if you still have fast requests and are being asked to pay, then this is a clear error.
Could you also let me know which version of Cursor you are using?
Hi, I had enabled usage based pricing but Claude 4 errored (connection error/high demand try again later) on many of those requests but they’re still counted towards my usage based requests, could you please look into this?
I was on version 49.6, and I was being charged for using the faster premium Claude 4 models.
Then I read that someone updated to the latest version and their charges stopped.
I updated to version 50.7 on May 25, 2025, at 09:13 AM, and now my premium requests are still being used with Claude 4 models.
This indicates that there are issues and bugs in your backend, since older versions of Cursor AI are still deducting charges — and that’s the root of all the confusion around pricing.

hmmm, so this means I have to update to the new Cursor which, last time I checked, had a terrible UI (though I haven’t tried 0.50).

I have 300 premium responses still left but I get the message that I need to enable Usage Based Pricing anyway.

That’s odd. Have you tried enabling it once, then deactivating it? For Claude 4 Sonnet or Sonnet Thinking, I assume
Try disabling the usage-based pricing option.
ALright, I found the issue. I manually checked the updates and I reinstalled whole Cursor via installer. Now it works again without Usage Based Pricing.

Why discriminate slow-pool users?
Because “LOOK WE HAVE A DISCOUNT” is a good PR stunt. It doesn’t matter that it’s available only for those lucky users who had their monthly recurring payment in the last few days, and for new users who come to Cursor now.
So they doubled the Claude requests for this privileged group, instead of allowing every paying customer to have at least some Claude requests to get a taste of the new model.
