Why do event credits get used before Pro and Grok Bot included usage?

Hi everyone,

I got $300 in event credits from a Cursor event (thanks for those!), and they’re good until Dec 13, 2026. Over the last couple of days they’ve slowly gone down ($300, $299.94, $286.05, $285.65), even this morning while my laptop was closed and only Grok Bot was running.

What confused me is that my Pro bars still show 26% Cursor Models and 89% Other Models, and my Grok Bot weekly bar is at 0%. Every row in my usage export says “Included” or “Free”. Support (ticket T-H47255) explained that event credits are used before the plan’s included usage, for Cursor and Grok Bot alike, and that the order can’t be changed.

I’m curious why it works this way or if it’s a bug. Id have expected the free credits to kick in after my monthly included usage runs out, so the plan I pay for gets used first. Is there a reason for this order, and would you consider changing it?

If it has to stay this way, it would really help to have it spelled out in the docs, so people know their event credits will be used first.

Thanks a lot,
Vasileios

Hey @Vasileios_Kitsios, thanks for the write-up, and glad you enjoyed the event!

The order depends on the credit. Some credits only kick in after your plan’s included usage runs out, and others are used first. The credits from this event are set up to be used before your included usage, for both Cursor and Grok Bot. That’s why your Pro bars and Grok Bot weekly bar haven’t moved while the credit balance went down.

Your included usage isn’t lost. It’s still there once the credit runs out or expires on December 13.

Thanks for the feedback.
