Three times now after an update I have had to re-import my user settings. It deletes some settings like the “allow list”. It deletes chats, and reorganizes my layouts. Everything gets messed up.
This is an old random bug. You can report a bug and hope that it will be fixed someday. I reported mine in July ![]()
I might have to call this one strike 3. This bug has hit me several times now. With no indication that it will be fixed. Multiple file save bugs freeze Curser at least once a day. Multiple AI request errors are very limiting, making it slow and wasting tokens.
I’m thinking I might have to switch over to Augment or maybe even go back to vs code with either tabnine or copilot. I am very disapointed with the state of Cursor. I have been using it for almost two years now, so I’m sad to leave it. But there has to be a point where enough is enough.
Yup 15 minutes after posting that Cursor froze again. I had to open the task manager to kill it. Good bye Cursor.
That sounds incredibly frustrating. I strictly use Cursor on both Windows and Ubuntu and have never lost my settings during an update. This suggests it might be an issue specific to your local environment or installation path (e.g. permission issues).
Since this isn’t the expected behavior, could you please open a formal Bug Report? This ensures the team can look at your specific logs to see what’s wiping the config files.

Too late I have already cancelled my subscription and moved on.
