Can't type in chat

I updated cursor today (so now it has composer in tab) and it worked for a while but then I noticed I can no longer input in the chat. There is no response to the keys and the input box remains blank. I tried composer input and that is fine.
Here is my current cursor version:

same here

just start the new instance

What do you mean start new instance? I quit cursor then reopened it and still can’t type in chat. Thanks

OK it’s solved now. I moved the chat into the editor tab (not the usual side pane) then I can type. Then I move the tab back as side pane and it still works.

So they fixed the bug by swapping the bug.

Used to be you couldnt type when it was out of the sidepane

The issue still exists, I couldn’t type inside the chat field. Restarting the cursor, and restarting my PC didn’t work.

Only when I clicked on “Open Chat as Editor” and then closed it and opened it again in the sidebar, it worked again.

Windows 11
The latest version cursor as of today

Same here, release: cursor-0.44.11-build-250103fqxdt5u9z-x86_64.AppImage
Ubuntu 22.04

i’ve had this happen a few times randomly… toggling the AI pane out and then back in fixes it. restarts dont.

I have the same in the last version but is for the composer, it does not allow to type on it, I can still use the cmd + k in the code window but for long queries that does not help

Can you start a new Composer session and if so, does that allow you to type?

I can, most of the time it does allow but not always. What I found that works more or less always is to close the chat side pannel (where all the composer/chat) is, then close the cursor app, reopen it again and open the chat panel.

this seems to make it work for a bit anyway, the latest version seemed to made this crash in one of my projects quite often

Same issue here, happens randomly. Composer works fine though, it’s only chat.

Hey, I believe have a later version out now, can you try that?

If that doesn’t help, can you open the developer tools with the Toggle Developer Tools command, and check for any errors there?

Hi @danperks! can you confirm if the latest version is 0.45.9 ? if the next one will be 0.45.10 or we move to 0.46? There are many issues to work on now, in deepseek r1 or claude, not just o3-mini anymore. It’s difficult.

Still an issue for me on 0.45.9

Hey, do you see any errors in the console if you run Developer: Toggle Developer Tools?

Same for me, this is really bad as I need to do my trick every 1 hour or so. I understand the code might be complex but when you are using cursor to help with productivity and need to restart everything every hours makes it quite unusable
