In “Agents” view having the Primary Side on the right is way too jarring, especially if you’re toggling back and forth with “Editor”
How do you put the Agents on the right where they belong?

hi @cdriver you can find the way in menu View > Appearance > Move Primary Sidebar Left
I don’t have that “Move Primary Sidebar Left” option in my View > Appearance menu.
The checkmarks for sidebars are also broken - when I open Secondary Side Bar, the checkmark stays inactive like it’s still closed.
They completely broke sidebar functionality in 2.0. Tried rolling back to 1.7 but it has similar issues, not exactly the same but still buggy.
In Editor mode I can place the sidebar on the left, but then I lose the agents chat list panel - which is exactly what I need. They removed the ability to have that chat list as a tab inside the sidebar itself in this version.
They stubbornly insist on going against users’ habits.
Thank you @CpPrice for the additional info.
I have filed the issue internally and team is having a look.
Hey folks! One of the devs working on Agent Layout here.
We’re working on allowing you to move the primary side bar left in Agent Layout and will have it shipped in the next day or so.
The vast majority of developers out there like the file explorer on the left, that is the default in most major IDEs. Any chance Cursor decides to makes this the default?
Any update on this? It’s been 2 days and I’m still unable to use Cursor comfortably in either version due to the sidebar position. Would appreciate a status update. Thanks!
Finally able to position the panels in the normal, obvious default layout that 90% of developers expect (files on the left). But why does the Primary Side Bar auto-close when opening a file? Who asked for this behavior? Just give us normal, standard behavior - don’t auto-close/open/move/scroll anything unless the user explicitly does it.
This was not intended behavior — fixed on the latest release that will be rolling out tomorrow. Sorry about the inconvenience here!
Hi! We just released the ability to move the primary side bar (files/search/etc.) to the left in the agent layout if you choose. This will be rolling out to all users over the next week.
Thanks, it works, but it keeps resetting when swapping between Agents and Editor modes.
I was able to find it by:
* click on the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the cursor IDE
* Agent Sidebar will say “left”, just switch it, and it moves the file explorer to the left
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks @Lee_Brandt, was trying cursor and the freaking mirror as compared to VScode was driving me nuts. The settings for the activity bar does not work to move to left.
Needless to say so far Cursor has been a huge disappointment in the first 3 minutes.
For those who want their code/project structure on the left and agents pane on the right, I found a fix for Cursor on my Windows machine with imported VS Code settings. Click the Settings icon in the top right, search through User settings (e.g., “sidebar”). You are looking for the “Workbench > Side Bar: Location” setting. This is binary – if it’s on the wrong side, switch it, and it should be what you’re looking for. Hope this helps!

@cursotTeamcursotTeam: Why do I even have to google this? Which IDE / file Broser is positioned on the right side?
(just started with cursor, and overwhelmed by the strange editor appearance; also in the default dark the words are barely readable: dark grey on black, just why?)
