Cursor don't listen?

Hello everyone,

I’m having a problem with Cursor: it doesn’t execute CursorRules or Project Rules at all. The AI completely fails to do what I ask, and I don’t understand why.

Additionally, I no longer get any feedback on linter errors, which makes things even more complicated.

In the Rules for AI, I only have the following:

“Always respond in French.”
“Start in Plan Mode (read-only): Gather info, ask questions, and draft a plan.
Act Mode (read/write) requires user activation (“Act”).
If unsure (<95% confidence), propose clarifications or actions to improve accuracy.”

The more new chat composers I create, the less it listens to me.

Does anyone know what’s going on or how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like there’s a few things going on here that we can fix

For the linter errors - you’ll need to enable “Iterate on Lints” in Settings > Features > Chat for Composer to see them

For the French responses - that should work as you have set up. Is the Composer not responding in French with that in place?

For Project Rules, they need to be in .cursor/rules directory and include a description of when they should be used. You can also force them to be used by @-mentioning the rule directly

Let me know if you’re still having trouble getting any of these working
