Cursor is freezing & crashing

Hey,

Cursor was working fine for me till yesterday. It just suddenly started to freeze and lag. It’s using a heck ton of memory on my Mac M1 Air. I used to have 3 IDEs open at the same time alongside cursor and still have no stuttering issues but now cursor is just straight up dying even when opened alone with no other apps running.

I have tried re-installing but the issue doesn’t go away. Everything just freezes, cmd+p search, opening files, even the file tree doesn’t expand, terminal doesn’t work - everything just dies.

I’ve tried cursor --disable-extensions but it still doesn’t help at all.

What’s going on ? How should I fix this ? I can’t even quit the application without force quitting.

Hey, which version of Cursor are you using? Have you tried opening another project as well? I see you’ve already tried loading without extensions. Also, let me know when this issue started occurring, perhaps after an update?

Hey,
So this was happening on an older version. It was happening for every project. Things were so bad I couldn’t update the app even - it was stuck on “Quitting is taking longer than usual” and I had to force quit every time.

I cleared every single file of cursor to clean it & then reinstalled the latest version, then it prompted me for an update which I installed - now it seems to be back to normal.
