Cursor is the new Clippy

cursor keeps shoving all these dialogs in my face but the panels don’t have a right click to close them. how do i get rid of all these cursor specific dialogs? I have no use for this stuff.

i can open the dialogs but never get rid of them.

it just reeks of desperation and is driving me back to VSCode.

I am not sure what you are talking about. Can you describe it differently and provide more screenshots?

have you seen the window in my s-shot here? how do i close that?

actually the issue is when the cursor chat is on the left hand side, it’s impossible to close. and moving it to the right is pretty obfuscated.

you can “move secondary bar left” but then there’s no way to close it or move it to the right again.

actually seems to be a bug, sometimes the ... menu isn’t available. I just moved back to ‘stable’ build.

Still it’s not clear how to move it to the RHS. often see this and even restarting cursor won’t get rid of it.

I mostly just use cursor as an editor now with tabs, and heavy agentic coding is via CC. Cursor seems to be less usable as a plain editor with some tabbing stuff, they want you to use their agents etc, which I don’t need.

I am using Windows, so it may be pretty different. I don’t think I have the ability to move the chat pane to the LHS, it is always on the RHS and its visibility is toggled with this button. So if you see that button somewhere maybe that will hide it, or you can try the mac equivalent of the shortcut.

Sorry, I can’t be more help since it sounds pretty different on mac.

Also you may be able to close the chat pane by closing the last chat via the ‘x’ on its tab. That’s the behavior on windows.

on mac - the panel will flip to the left sometimes and all ability to close it is gone.

the icon above just opens another agent and no way to close it.

the chat[x] button is missing.

not sure if this is a bug or deliberate to force cursor features to be in your face.

even shutting cursor won’t reset the UI and it gives a glib clippy reply. OK i’m done with cursor back to VSCode

Yea, I would make a bug report. Seems weird.

When you say it sometimes flips to the left, have you figured out when this happens? It seems like your entire top bar is missing, even over the “new agent” area. Is it always missing, or do you do something that makes it disappear?

I just updated to 2.0.4 and I got the same thing.

Fix by changing this setting:

There is also these buttons in top bar to toggle views:

Could you explain the bug you are experiencing?

Edit - post above is correct, this is from toggling the Agent Layout

thanks. actually ‘editor’ was selected but by toggling to Agent then back to editor it seemed to fix things. This is likely a bug that the initialization of the new layout misses setting up the proper state, and the missing values are just left out.

Thanks for the update! We’re looking at this bug now.

you can move it via

F1 → move → view move → picking the Agent pane

i moved it to the right, closing it you just press CTRL SHIFT I, sometimes twice
