Describe the Bug
This has been a huge problem for me, persisting since Claude 4 became available on either OS. Whenever a new folder is opened, chat history resets, and the UI doesn’t show the chat history. No restore points, nothing. But the data was written once - so it still must be there.
It’s bad enough that I’m now reduced to going through the guts of the Cursor AppData Windows directory with a SQL editor searching through 10 different sub-directories for a Powershell script with complex regex that disappeared before I pushed it to a repo. I’m waiting for a a full system backup to complete before I even touch those.
This v 1.0.0 push is the worst Cursor experience I’ve had to date and has led to significant losses of critical snippets and other suggestions from chat history at, of course, the worst time ever.
Steps to Reproduce
Open a new folder in Cursor. Chat history resets.
Expected Behavior
Long-term chat history is available for every interaction with the currently-set model. Claude 4 in this case.

Additional Information
Unsure why there was a need to push a non-beta version with Claude 4. That model is broken on Cursor in several ways, not just this one.
Does this stop you from using Cursor
No - Cursor works, but with this issue
