The cursor application is deleting itself.

Are you on Windows? Do you have steps to reproduce? First hunch is this is a known longtail issue with our system of Electron autoupdating on Windows.

To this day, I still have this same error, it uninstalls itself, then the icon disappears and it tells me if I want to delete it.

And yes i’m on Windows.

I’m also facing the same issue. It has happened twice already. I’m not sure how I can reproduce this. I turn off my PC last night. This morning when I turn it on, and after an hour or so when I wanted to user cursor, its no longer there.

I’m on Windows 10 pro 22H2. Last windows auto update was ‎a month ago.

@chris.digital ,

I don’t suppose you know the Cursor version that was installed before it occurred?

The latest version available for download from cursor.com is 0.39.5.

If you install Cursor again, perhaps copy and paste the system information available from:

Cursor > Help > About.

Yup I do. The last version that got uninstalled was Cursor Setup 0.37.1 - x64. Currently, I have downloaded the latest which is 0.39.5

Here’s the system info:

This just happened to me as well - has happened a few times now. Same exact issue. Cursor just randomly uninstalls itself for no reason - incredibly annoying.

I used Cursor on Friday. Computer was off all weekend. Uninstalled itself and folder was empty Monday morning.

if you’re on windows, maybe it was moved to quarantined files or something by your AV? (be sure to download from official sources). If you’re on linux: the appimage binary will rename itself on updates and if you used a manual symbolic link , it is easiest to fix it with this post. Cursor disapeared - #7 by cinder

Windows. Downloaded from Cursor’s website directly. There was an update to Windows 10 done over the weekend, so perhaps related.

I have the same issue

Happened again since my last post.

This was the system info from my last post.

I have sample problem on MacPro, OS Sonoma 14.6.1

Just happened to me as well. I used cursor yestarday, and this morning when I turned on my PC, it was gone. This is the type of bug that will cause people to not use cursor anymore. I encourage the devs to take a look at this immediately. I am on windows:

Edition Windows 11 Home Single Language
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎10/‎28/‎2023
OS build 22631.4169
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1034.0

Device specs:

|Processor|AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS with Radeon Graphics 3.20 GHz|
|Installed RAM|24.0 GB (19.7 GB usable)|
|System type|64-bit operating system, x64-based processor|
|Pen and touch|No pen or touch input is available for this display|

Everyone with self-deleting cursor should probably post history of how they got the cursor download link (what search engine/ad/discord friend sent the link as well as a SHA256 sum of whatever it is was initially downloaded)

The official cursor download is small and one of the output tabs of VirusTotal will give you the SHA256 sum.

The VSCode-style internal version information is useful if you have a real copy of cursor, but not useful if it is just an open-source-facsimile of cursor which would be easy to do as code-oss and vscodium are fully open source.

Less likely but still possible: if you’re on a managed work computer, expect IT to go through and/or have automatic rules in the AV/malware provider to remove unapproved binaries if that is the case.

this just happened to me too. normal pc shut down then this morning no cursor

I had the same issue too when i Installed Cursor Cursor Setup 0.40.4 - x64.exe.

For me it happened when I closed Cursor and tried to open it again, it was gone. Tried to click on the Start menu shortcut and it wouldn’t open saying it was gone. Was slightly annoyed at this and was going to install Cursor again, but after like 5 minutes it came back for some reason. The shortcut icons didn’t work so had to create a new one again.

I thought this was due to Cursor auto updating itself as I can see I’m on version 0.41.3 now (installed 0.40.4).

Still annoying regardless.

happened again to me.

happened to me while my PC was still running and seemingly deleted/reinstalled itself really don’t like an AI program having the ability even update without my approval . whats going on with this Cursor?

Happened to me several times (Windows 10). Might be wrong but I think it happens every time there is a new release; presumably it’s uninstalling itself but failing to install the new version. Very annoying. Would appreciate an update from the team.
