Cursor removing Itself?

Thanks for the info! You should be able to reinstall from the website and pick up where you left off, but I understand this is a pain to do. We are looking into this, but it’s proving hard to reproduce internally.

Update does not help

How so, does reinstalling not get Cursor back on your machine?

reinstalling does get cursor back to my machine, but it still removes itself everytime.

Every time you restart your machine or every time you close Cursor?

In my case, everytime I close Cursor it got removed

Can you confirm, if you kill Cursor via task manager, is it still removed?

hi! had the exact same issue less than 10 mins ago. i was trying to run ‘npm run dev’ for a react project when something wasn’t working then i closed it and tried to open with the shortcut and it said the app wasn’t there. tried searching for the app, couldn’t find it. i also checked task manage and there wasn’t anything. is there any more info that could help? ty :3

edit - it’s happened again

same thing for me, didn’t even restart my PC. I simply closed the app to reopen it again and it was removed. no where to be found on my machine. wierdly enough, while typing this message, I tried opening it again to check what the popup said to include it in this very message, and it opened up like normal again. what? lol

I too have the cursor automatically deleted after closing the app. I have Windows 10, version 2h22 This happens every time after closing the cursor

This is the second time I’ve encountered this issue. On this occasion, I was using the application offline while traveling. I’m wondering if this problem is related to a mechanism designed to prevent usage without an active account.

Had this multiple times over the last few days. Actively using Cursor, it crashes, then shortcut says it no long exists. About 4-5 minutes later Cursor is available again. No idea what is going on but it makes it very hard to use.

Aha, something interesting happened. Could mean that the bug is mostly fixed. Here’s a play-by-play:

  • I closed cursor. I noticed that there is now a shortcut named “Cursor” in my
desktop, but it had a missing icon. When I tried running Cursor again, it said that it cannot find my Cursor installation.
  • I opened this thread to report it and check for any recent responses.
  • After viewing desktop again, I noticed that the shortcut now has an icon. I can run Cursor again after this, without having to manually reinstall it like before.

This issue is not fixed as I am back and adding to this chain. It happened again.

Yes I restarted my computer, I didn’t think it was open at the time but I could be wrong. Yes there was an update available. To be fair there is always an update available, which is by no means a bad thing but the problem persists nevertheless.

Just an advise, I would put this issue at the top of the list of things to fix. There are no shortage of other apps people can jump to and this seems like a proper reason to do it.

Hello, Dan Perks!

Wishing you a gentle day.

This is repeatedly happening to a fellow developer on my team running windows. Really disrupting his workflow. Can you please give us an idea of how high a priority this is for you and a timeline for when this will be resolved?

Peace and Love,
Phil

It happened to me today in the morning, while I was offline. Now, it happened again.

It does this for me without any prompt for the update and even if I closed Cursor normally. The issue to me is that there’s zero indication to the user that Cursor is updating.

yes, as of this morning the cursor starts deleting itself after I exit it
I’ve been using it for almost a month and this has never happened before

As of yesterday Cursor has started uninstalling itself everytime I close the application… never mind restarting windows, just close the app and its gone.

Windows 10 latests, just downloaded from official cursor landing page.
I am pretty sure i nailed it. When closing cursor manually, Desktop icon becomes white and pointing to non-existent file. Then i waited for 1 min, with cursor running in background (Task manager). After that i could open it again from Windows search bar.
