Feedback on UI Update (02/28/25)

Hi,

Big Cursor fan overall.

Chiming in to comment that I’m finding the new UI (launched today, 02/28/25) challenging to manage. Specifically:

  1. Command+L opened a new, empty chat before today’s update. That no longer works – after the update, that key command focuses the existing chat.
  2. The key command that replaces Command+L to create a new chat, Command+N, only works if the chat window is focused. Otherwise, if a file is focused, which is common, it creates a new file.
  3. I want to be able to set a default mode. I don’t often use the agent or composer because I prefer the chat control. But Cursor is defaulting to the agent in new chats, which slows me down.

Thanks for all the great work.

Has that been documented? I keep checking docs and several UI parts are still incomplete there. We are trying new options that Cursor offers but even the updated docs are now out of date

No, we haven’t updated the documentation yet. Hopefully, the information will be updated very soon.

Thanks – I updated my keybindings, which helped.

I’d love to be able to set preferences for Mode – specifically, the ability to set a default Mode and turn Mode options on or off.

Additionally, “Open in Chat” now defaults to Agent, even if my Mode is set to “Chat.”
