Frequent updates & preferences reset

  1. After an update, cursor resets my preferences. For eg., I prefer the usual setup: agent-panel on right and primary-sidebar on the left side. After update, cursor resets this which is very frustrating. To add more to this, the team also changes the UI to change the view with the updates.
  2. Cursor is releasing updates too frequently without any info on what to expect in the new release. We get a hint of the updates only after we update.

Sometimes I have to restart cursor after days of working on it. I understand that a software would need a restart after working for days but that is when cursor updates itself. I love the updates – If there was an option to not update automatically, I would not choose it because I love them. But when both the above issues come together it’s a pain.

Hey thanks for the report.

Layout reset after updates

Both topics have been discussed already. I’ll answer in order:

The team acknowledged this issue and added a way to save your layout:

  • There’s a gear icon in the top right for layout settings
  • You can save the config as default there

The sidebar position reset bug was fixed in a recent release. If it’s still happening, tell me your Cursor version. We’ll check it out.

More details in the team’s megathread.

Release notes

Changelogs are at cursor.com/changelog. They’re not always synced with releases. That’s common feedback the team gets.
