Grok Bot on Windows: "/" menu won't open, chat display tears on new messages and window resize

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Two issues in Grok Bot on Windows. Both happen on 2 separate Windows devices.

  1. Typing “/” in the chat input does nothing. I can’t open the menu to enable skills or other triggers.
  2. The chat display consistently tears or breaks while messages from the bot come in, and when I move or resize the window.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Grok Bot on Windows.
  2. Click into the chat input and type “/”.
  3. No skills or triggers menu appears.
  4. Send any message and watch the reply come in. The chat display tears or breaks.
  5. Move or resize the window. The display tears or breaks again.

Expected Behavior

Typing “/” opens the skills and triggers menu. The chat redraws cleanly while replies come in and when the window is moved or resized.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Version Information

Grokbot 0.75.2 + 0.75.3

For AI issues: which model did you use?

N/A. This is a UI and rendering issue, not a model response issue.

Additional Information

  • Reproduced on 2 separate Windows devices, so it doesn’t look tied to one machine.
  • Monitor setup: single + multiple monitors

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey @Colin_Singleton,

The “/” menu is expected in current versions. Since 0.68.1, typing / in the desktop composer no longer opens the skills menu (changelog). Your skills are all still there and still work: name the one you want in your message, for example “use my weekly-report skill to…”, and the Bot picks it from your installed skills. Customize (Ctrl+Shift+M) should show what you have installed. Several users have asked for a way to pick skills from the composer again, and the team is tracking that request.

The tearing is a known display issue the team is tracking in the Grok Bot desktop app on Windows: the chat doesn’t always redraw cleanly while a reply comes in or the window changes size. There’s no fix out yet. In the meantime, two things are worth trying:

  1. Open Settings (Ctrl+,), and on the General page turn off Use hardware acceleration, then click Restart to Apply. It’s on by default on Windows.
  2. If that doesn’t help, check Windows Settings > System > Display > Scale. If it’s 100% or 125%, try 150% for a moment and send a message again.

Could you let me know whether either one changes the tearing? A short screen recording of it happening would also help.
