Grok Bots not responding

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

My Grok Bot Agent Computer is unreachable on both iPhone and desktop. All bots on the account are dead, including Chief of Staff.
The iOS app shows: “Couldn’t refresh — showing the last loaded messages.” Messages I send appear as black bubbles and never get a reply.
Overnight the bots stopped working. I reset the Agent Computer. It came back for about 45 minutes, then died again. I fully quit the app, signed out, and signed back in. The computer would not restart. Reset Grok Bot’s Computer now fails with an error that it cannot be reset / the computer is in a partial or incomplete state.
I then signed into Grok Bot on my computer with the same account. Same issue: computer won’t start, reset fails.
This is not one bad chat. The shared cloud computer is stuck. Please recover/rebuild the existing Agent Computer on the backend and keep my bots, chats, files, and logins. Do not have me keep hitting Reset. Client-side Reset and Recover cannot finish.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use Grok Bot normally on iPhone. Overnight the bots stop responding.
  2. Open a conversation (Chief of Staff). The app shows “Couldn’t refresh — showing the last loaded messages.” Sent messages appear as black bubbles and get no reply.
  3. Reset Grok Bot’s Computer. It comes back for about 45 minutes, then dies again.
  4. Fully quit the Grok Bot app and reopen it.
  5. Sign out and sign back in on iOS.
  6. Try to restart/reconnect the Agent Computer. It does not start.
  7. Try Reset Grok Bot’s Computer again. Reset fails with an error that it cannot be reset / the computer is in a partial or incomplete state.
  8. Sign in on desktop with the same account.
  9. The desktop app hits the same state: computer will not start, reset fails.
I cannot get past this from the client. It now happens every time I open Grok Bot on either device.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report. I can see the screenshots showing “Something went wrong”, “Couldn’t check for a newer version”, and “Reset failed”. The main thing first, your computer, bots, chats, files, and logins are safe. Nothing was lost. Your computer didn’t actually break.

The cause is different. Your account doesn’t have an explicit Privacy Mode choice saved yet. During signup, you only confirmed the data notice. Grok Bot on your devices can’t connect to your computer until that choice is saved, so every connection attempt gets rejected. That’s why you see “Couldn’t refresh”, messages with no replies (black bubbles), and “Reset failed”. Reset, Retry, and Recover won’t fix this, so please don’t keep pressing them.

How to unblock it:

  • Open cursor.com/dashboard in your browser and sign in with the same account you use in Grok Bot.
  • Open Settings and find the Privacy section.
  • Select Privacy Mode (not the Legacy option), keep the data sharing settings however you want, and confirm.
  • On Mac, fully quit Grok Bot with Cmd+Q and reopen it. On iPhone, swipe the app away and open it again.
  • Wait about a minute. If it still says Reconnecting, press Retry once.

The bots should connect within a couple of minutes. Messages sent during the outage may need to be sent again.

If it still won’t connect after these steps, send the time you tried, including your timezone, and we’ll dig in.
