Missing side bar button for chat

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

You’ve added a sidebar management button for Agents, but where’s my ability to push a button and make the chat sidebar go away too? Screenshot shows the agent sidebar management button next to the green window miniturization button, with the chat pane under it. Pushing that button adds the agent sidebar, but there’s no UX to remove the chat pane. Instead I have to go into the “…” menu and click Hide Chats. Consistency in the UX would be nice, so users aren’t searching for hidden UX elements … perhaps just make the left and right sidebar buttons cycle through agent, agent+chat, chat, and nothing?

Hey, thanks for the feedback! The chat collapse button was intentionally removed in Cursor 2.3 in favor of customizable layouts.

Current ways to hide or show the chat panel:

  • Keyboard shortcut: CMD+ALT+B (toggles the chat panel)
  • Via layouts: click the gear icon (top right) and pick the layout you want
  • If you want to use the Agent sidebar instead of the full-screen composer: switch to the Editor layout via the gear icon, then press CMD+I to toggle the Agent sidebar

Your request about UX consistency is very valid. I’d recommend adding your feedback to the main layout/UI megathread here: [Megathread] Cursor layout and UI feedback The team is actively collecting UI improvement ideas there.

Ok, I will. I frequently show/hide the chat pane and wish it was a first class citizen like the agent bar. Thx for the keyboard shortcut.
