On the top circle, I usually click it to hide the chat so I can have a full-screen view for side-by-side coding (and use chat and editor if needed). But now, the button has changed to toggle the agents window instead of closing the chat. This completely breaks my workflow because my screen ends up looking like this:
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I get the frustration. This change in Cursor 2.3 broke the workflow for a lot of users.
The button to toggle chat was removed on purpose in favor of customizable layouts. Here’s how to hide chat now:
Quick fix:
CMD+ALT+B (or CTRL+ALT+B on Windows) to toggle the chat panel
CMD+E to toggle the Agent layout
Alternative (if you want the Agent sidebar instead of fullscreen):
Gear icon (top right) > select Editor layout
CMD+I to toggle the Agent sidebar
The gear icon also lets you set up and save a custom layout.
I know hotkeys aren’t a replacement for the button you’re used to. If you want to share feedback about this change, the team is collecting UI comments here: [Megathread] Cursor layout and UI feedback
Same problem here for me: in editor layout, I do not want the agents sidebar. They make no sense, since chats are already there and have new chat functionality, past chats, and even corktree/cloud specifications. So I really need a quick way to show/hide chats sidebar, not agents sidebar ! I feel like this has been modified back and forth, between the button actually properly toggling chats, vs toggling agents.
This was solved for me by reverting to «classic layout» from the cursor settings. This disables customization of layouts, and makes the right side panel button being up or dismiss the chats bar, with no more additional/separate agents side side bar
