On demand usage

Hello.

"I’ve been using Cursor for a while now and have a few questions. When on-demand usage is active and set to unlimited, is there a monthly spending limit? For example, if I consume $5,000 worth of credits, does cursor.com allow this? Or would I be prompted to make a payment after consuming around $200–$300?

Hey, there’s no hidden cap. If on-demand is set to unlimited, you can use up to whatever spend limit you’ve set in the dashboard. If you set it to unlimited and use 5,000 USD of credits in a month, Cursor will allow it and bill it.

How billing works in practice:

  • You’re invoiced incrementally during the month, not just at the end. Mid-month invoices usually start at around 20 USD of outstanding on-demand usage and increase based on your payment history, with each individual invoice capped at around 100 USD.
  • Stripe auto-charges the card on file each time an invoice is created.
  • If 2 or more invoices aren’t paid, on-demand is automatically disabled until they’re paid.
  • If your usage briefly goes over your spend limit due to processing delays, we cover that overage. You won’t be charged above your configured limit.

So in your example, at 5,000 USD you wouldn’t get a prompt to pay at 200 USD to 300 USD, but you would see multiple Stripe charges spread across the month as your card is auto-billed against the running total. If you want a hard ceiling, set a specific dollar spend limit in the dashboard instead of unlimited.
