Pro Plan: Free Models Being Counted as Premium Prompt

Hi everyone,

I’d like to report an issue I’m experiencing with my Pro plan in the Cursor editor. I’ve recently noticed that prompts made using models that, to my knowledge, are free and should have unlimited usage, are being counted towards and depleting my premium prompt limit.

I understand that on May 10th, 2025, an update was introduced regarding a “unified request-based pricing” system. However, I’m wondering if, due to this change, the way free models are handled for Pro plan users has been modified, or perhaps if this is a bug in the counting system?

Before this update, I didn’t encounter such a problem, and free models did not affect my premium request counter. I usually have the “Auto-select” feature turned off and try to consciously choose my models.

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Is this a known bug, or is there any official clarification on how free models are now accounted for within the premium limit on the Pro plan after the recent changes?

I would be grateful for any information or help in clarifying this matter.

Best regards

Hey, which models are you using?

Ah I know
seems that is bug in UI
you can use new Dashboard for accurate history

in old dashboard, free model counted as 1 request
in new Dashboard it counted as 0 request

I am experiencing the same problem! I have actually used up half of my quota (as reported by the new dashboard) so far without realizing this issue. I would appreciate any clarifications here.

I am not experiencing this. You will have to give additional information.
OS, version info and what models you are using that you say this is happening with.

I just tested with Gemini Flash and was not charged.

Sure! I am using WSL: Ubuntu-22.04, recentely updated the cursor to the latest version. I have set the model: gpt-4o-mini. I have also tested with cursor-mini and the same happened.

Your screenshot shows the default model, which means that you have auto mode enabled, selecting one of the premium models. If you need the free models you mentioned, disable the auto mode.
