Selecting Opus 4.8 switches back to Composer 2.5

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

After the latest Cursor update, every time I select Claude Opus 4.8, Cursor immediately switches back to Composer 2.5.

This happens consistently and makes it impossible to stay on Opus 4.8.

I attached a screen recording showing the issue.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor
Open the model selector
Select Claude Opus 4.8
Prompt anything
Model automatically switches back to Composer 2.5

Expected Behavior

Cursor should remain on Claude Opus 4.8 after selection and continue using it for the prompt instead of switching back to Composer 2.5.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

OK, I found the reason:

In Editor Mode, Cursor shows:
“Switched to composer-2.5 after reaching API limit.”

That same message should probably also appear in Agent Mode — otherwise it looks like a model selection bug.

Hey @ralfzosel

Thanks for flagging this. I can reproduce it (I thought at first it might have to do with minimum window width or something, but nope, the message is just not there)!

I’ll flag this for the team.
