The same issue occurred the first time when I uploaded my DL through SheerId, and it failed. The second time I uploaded my student ID, verification failed. Now it is stuck at ‘Verification Limit Exceeded’.
Tried to reach out to SheerId customer support, but they never replied. Sent the same request to the cursor support team, and the response was to check with SheerId support.
SheerID identity verification fails. I am a student in the US and tried to verify my student status, I uploaded my drivers license (as well as passport) for identity verification, got the confirmation email with a link that led to this error. SheeID support haven’t been helpful. The images that I uploaded are very clear, so the issue is with the system but they didn’t resolve it.
@condor Hello! There was a problem with the scanning of my ID and I wasn’t able to re-do it correctly so I would like another attempt if that’s possible. I have emailed Sheer ID to reset it as well, but I was hoping maybe you guys could guide me better here! Thank you!
I am trying to redeem my Cursor student plan, but I was using the wrong identification and tried to submit it too many times (not realizing my identification was wrong), and hit my verification limit, and now I can do nothing.
I know this is technically a SheerID issue, but I have reached out to their support team multiple times to no avail. Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?
This is the screen that shows after I submit this section:
I recently applied for the student offer. When I followed the verification link, I received the message: “We had trouble validating your ID.” Could you help me resolve this? I can provide any additional documents you need (e.g., enrollment letter, student ID, or class schedule).
I’m an international student currently enrolled at US university. I’ve tried to complete the verification via SheerID but failed, and their support is not helpful.
To verify, I submitted the verification form, which required me to upload government-issued IDs. I uploaded my passport’s photo page and the signature page. I got a link to my email to complete the verification. Used my .edu address.
Somewhere in the page I saw the instruction to submit a student ID/ enrollment document instead, so I tried to submit my student ID and current enrollment document but it still didn’t work.
I contacted SheerID support and they just asked me to return the verification form again with proper government IDs. I tried again with my passport, US Visa, and even state issued ID and all failed. Now when I tend to return the verification form, it shows verification limit exceeded.
SheedID support team is not responding though I’ve reached out several times to follow up the issue. Could you please check? I’ve used SheerID to verify student status for other services and it worked fine. Not sure what’s the problem for this. Thank you very much.

When I first tried it, it said it’s going to take a few minutes(first picture) and send me an email after completion, but after a week, I still didn’t get an email.
After a week, I tried it again. Now, it says there are issues with validating government ID, and also shows I tried too many times.
The Cursor student discount program feels like a complete scam, and if this situation is not resolved promptly, we will have no choice but to escalate this issue to the relevant authorities.
The SheerID verification process failed to provide any clear guidance on the correct documents required for submission, which directly caused me to exhaust all my verification attempts without success. Furthermore, both Cursor and SheerID have shown an extremely irresponsible attitude, demonstrating no intention of actually resolving the issue.
It has also come to my attention that many international students studying at U.S. universities are facing similar unfair treatment — and there is plenty of evidence online supporting this.
This situation is in direct violation of the original promises stated in Cursor’s student offer and may even constitute deceptive or fraudulent practices.
I strongly urge Cursor and SheerID to address and resolve this issue immediately.
hi @user917 and thank you for your feedback. We are working on improvements which will take several weeks. Once this is resolved we will share it with everyone.
Hi! I have been facing the issue, I have an .edu email from Australia. Once I upload the documents like my passport, It instantly says failed. How can I fix the issue?\
I’m a high school student in Italy, and my school uses an official .edu.it domain provided by the Italian Ministry of Education.
I saw on your blog and official posts that the free year of Cursor Pro is also available for high school students, not just university students. However, when I try to verify my account, I get the error: “You must be a student at a degree-granting school.”
Since Italian high schools are government-recognized but don’t grant degrees, the automatic system seems to reject my verification.
Could you please review my case manually or confirm if .edu.it domains can be approved?
I can provide proof of enrollment and my official school email address if needed.
Hi, I am having trouble for student verification with my college .edu email. On the website, after I upload my government-issues ID, I got this error: Error
