Support Bot Loop: Valid French University Email (.univ-evry.fr) rejected automatically

Describe the Bug

Hi Team,

I am reporting a frustrating loop with the “Sam” AI support bot regarding student verification.

I am attempting to verify my student status with the University of Évry Paris-Saclay in France.

I request a student discount via email.

The bot replies: “You must write in from the student email you are trying to verify.”

I reply directly from my official student email (@etud.univ-evry.fr).

The bot immediately auto-rejects my email because it detects a non-.edu TLD, and tells me to write back from a .edu address.

This creates an impossible loop. In France, public universities use .fr domains, not .edu. Validating strictly on .edu excludes recognized public institutions in Europe.

My Details:

University: University of Évry Paris Saclay

Domain: univ-evry.fr

Is there a way to bypass the bot for a manual review?
thanks

Steps to Reproduce

I emailed Cursor Support to request a student discount verification.

The AI Support Assistant (“Sam”) replied asking me to write back directly from my student email address.

I replied sending a new email from my official university account (@etud.univ-evry.fr).

The AI immediately responded with an error stating: “This email must be a ‘.edu’ address.”

This creates an infinite loop: The bot asks for the student email, but then rejects it because French universities use .fr instead of .edu.

Expected Behavior

The support system should recognize legitimate international university domains (like .univ-evry.fr in France) or escalate the ticket to a human agent when a valid educational domain is used. It should not strictly enforce a US-centric .edu rule for international students who physically cannot obtain a .edu address.

Additional Information

University: University of Évry Paris Saclay (France) Domain: @etud.univ-evry.fr Context: In France, public universities are government-run and use .fr domains. The .edu TLD is not available to us. I am stuck in an automated loop and cannot reach a human to provide my student ID card for manual verification.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Thanks for the detailed report. There’s a dedicated thread for students outside the USA or without .edu email addresses where staff are tracking this issue:

Please reply there with France - .univ-evry.fr (and upvote the main post). This helps the team measure demand for expanding student verification to international domains. The thread notes that currently only .edu addresses in the USA are supported, but they’re collecting feedback for future expansion.
