I’m a user from China. I’ve been using Cursor for a while and upgraded to the latest version today. However, I’m encountering an issue where the AI chat keeps displaying the message “connection failed.”
Connection failed. If the problem persists, please check your internet connection or VPN (Request ID: a85d6f82-783b-4276-93b6-01bcc7545b8b)
This problem is quite frustrating because I can still access the official website normally, log in to my account, and make payments. But despite trying to switch my IP proxy and restart the conversation, the issue persists. Even reinstalling the application doesn’t make any difference.
This has severely impacted my experience with Cursor and left me quite upset. I really hope you can look into this issue and provide some solutions.
Thank you very much for your support and assistance!
I am in the UAE and am a heavy user I have experienced this all day. Today was a total loss. Also tools not applying code not giving me the accept button. Also application crashed continuously not sure what has happened today but it’s been a wipeout for me.
When I disabled HTTP/2, the issue was resolved.
Cursor > General: Disable Http2
Disable HTTP/2 for all requests, and use HTTP/1.1 instead. This increases resource utilization and latency, but is useful if you’re behind a corporate proxy that blocks HTTP/2.
We need to change our approach and figure out what is damaging my HTTP/2. First of all:
My Windows 10 system settings > DNS > Primary 8.8.8.8, Secondary 8.8.4.4
I can access various domestic and foreign websites normally
Secondly, there are the following facts on my computer:
I can’t find any content related to HTTP/2 in my Clash for Windows YAML
My Clash for Windows uses rule mode + system proxy
With Clash for Windows enabled + Cursor HTTP/2 disabled, I can successfully chat with AI
With Clash for Windows enabled + Cursor HTTP/2 enabled, AI chat fails
With Clash for Windows disabled, AI chat fails regardless of whether Cursor HTTP/2 is enabled
At this time, cmd > ipconfig /flushdns > With Cursor HTTP/2 enabled, I can successfully chat with AI; with Cursor HTTP/2 disabled, AI chat fails
It helped when I restarted cursor. But after 1 minute it still connection failed. If I restart cursor it works for several seconds, and than degrades again.
So it must be something else in addition.
Maybe its even something else since I get also the message:
We're having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment.
Its not good that you guys from cursor do have all system “operational” when many users experience same problems (I mean here: https://status.cursor.com/)
Better to use 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare) and 8.8.8.8 (google) for DNS - using another google as the second (8.8.4.4) is not as redundant, and in my location, cloudflare is 2x faster than google.
If the problem persists, please check your internet connection or VPN, or email us at [email protected].

Where is this HTTP/2 setting?
File => Preferences => Cursor => General does not have any such option for me?
I am having the same problem. I am not sure why but I am not able to find where to disable the HTTP2. I understood that it is in app settings but when I open windows app settings it doesnt let me modify it. I tried pressing CTRL+ in cursor as explained here Cursor – Common Issues but that only zooms the screen. Please help!
Getting this error all day so far in the UK, 2 hours wasted so far. Tried restarting my machine which works for a few minutes and then the issue returns
