Unable to reconnect to my Grok Bot's computer after attempted update

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

After attempting to update the Grok Bot app and/or Grok Bot’s computer in app settings, I am no longer able to reconnect to my Grok Bot computer.

When I first open the Grok Bot app, it spends some time reconnecting and then I get the message “Couldn’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer: Your Bots, files, and logins are safe. If it doesn’t reconnect on its own, recover Grok Bot’s computer to keep the data.”

Here are some of the things I tried:

  • Recover Grok Bot's Computer does not work and I tried retry many times.
  • Went to settings and tried to do a reset and it fails with: “The reset couldn’t finish. Grok Bot’s computer may be in a partial state, retry to run the reset again.”

I might have caused more problems by doing this, but I did trying to recover and reset many times and in every way I can think of.

If possible, can you please rebuild / reprovision my Grok Bot Agent Computer from the backend?

I accept any unsynced work that is lost during a snapshot reset.

This happened Sunday, Aug 30, 2026, around 12:20 PM EDT.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report. This is a technical connection issue, and the forum is the right place. Let’s sort it out. Sorry about the auto-reply above about billing, it triggered by mistake.

First, the key point. Your bots, files, and logins live on a remote computer, not on your local machine. So reinstalling the app won’t delete any of that.

This state, Couldn’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer plus Recover and Reset failing, often happens when the app loses its login session in the background, for example after a recent password change. Both Recover and Reset need a working connection, so if the session is invalid, both options fail.

Try this in order:

  1. Fully quit Grok Bot, quit the whole process, not just the window.
  2. Reopen it, sign out in the app, then sign in again using your current password.
  3. If you can’t sign out and back in, reinstall the app and sign in fresh.

After a fresh sign-in, the app should reconnect to your computer automatically.

If it still won’t connect after that, tell me what you see on the sign-in screen, and whether you’re using a VPN, a proxy, or a network with a firewall. Then we can dig deeper.

Ok, signing out and signing back in did the trick. Thank you so much!

I am not sure why, but my account under settings was showing something like “Cursor #user_01M0YXN4TKYTEK565MPZ4C7GSK” and now it is showing my correct user account “John Smith [email protected]”.

It is working now, thanks again.
