Describe the Bug

Equipment: Macbook Air M1
MacOS version: Tahoe 26.5

Grok Bot Info:
Version: 0.43.0
Release Track: stable
OS: darwin

Today, Sep 6, my Grok Bot lost connection to the computer. I tried all retries, updates and resets. See results below.

Retry connecting:
“Reconnecting…” for about a minute.
Then, “Couldn’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer. Your Bots, files, and logins are safe. If it doesn’t reconnect on its own, recover Grok Bot’s computer to keep the data.”

Update:
“Update failed. The update couldn’t finish. Agent Computer is still on its previous image. Your files and logins are kept; installed apps and packages are not. Any agent turn that cannot pause is discarded”

Recover my computer:
“Recover failed. The recovery couldn’t finish, so Grok Bot’s computer may still be unreachable. Your Bots, files, and logins are safe.”

Retry Recovery:
“Recover failed. The recovery couldn’t finish, so Grok Bot’s computer may still be unreachable. Your Bots, files, and logins are safe.”

Reset:
“Reset failed. The reset couldn’t finish. Grok Bot’s computer may be in a partial state – retry to run the reset again.”

Retry reset:
“Reset failed. The reset couldn’t finish. Grok Bot’s computer may be in a partial state – retry to run the reset again.”

Also tried resetting via smartphone app, but no success.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the detailed report. Good news: your Grok Bot computer and Bots are fine, they’re working on our side and nothing is lost. You don’t need Reset, Recover, or Update here.

This is a known issue on 0.43.0: if your Cursor password was recently changed or reset, or you signed out on another device, it signs out all devices. The 0.43.0 desktop app keeps the old session and, instead of asking you to sign in again, shows Couldn’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer. For the same reason, Update, Recover, and Reset fail too.

Fix: just sign out and sign back in in the desktop app.

  • In Grok Bot on Mac, click your name or avatar at the bottom left of the sidebar.
  • Choose Sign out and confirm.
  • Sign in again with the same Cursor account you used to create your Bots, using your new password. If you have multiple Cursor accounts, make sure you pick the right one.
  • Wait about a minute. Your Bots should load.

If you don’t see Sign out in the menu, right-click the Grok Bot icon in the menu bar, choose Quit, reopen the app, and try again.

Let me know if it still won’t connect after signing in again.

Hi Dean, I have a similar issue, but signing out and signing back in has not restored access.

My existing Grok Bot computer first showed a connection error involving *.cursorvm.com. After signing out and signing back in, the client now shows both:

  • “Reconnecting to your computer…”
  • “No saved Bots yet”

This is blocking access to my existing Bots and computer. Please escalate this to the team that can inspect the account-to-computer mapping and reattach the existing Grok Bot computer / backend association to my account, if that association is missing or incorrect. Please verify the original computer and its stored data before making any changes.

The cause is not yet confirmed. Please also check for an account/session mismatch and explain how I can securely verify that this is the original account.

Please preserve the existing computer, Bots, files, logins and history. I do not authorize Reset, Recover, Update Computer, deletion, replacement/provisioning of a new computer, or creation of new Bots as part of this request. Please ask me before any action that could alter or discard existing state.

Please provide a private official support channel where I can supply the account identifier, exact hostname, request ID, timestamps and diagnostics if needed. I have left those details out of this public reply.

Can you help restore access to the existing computer and confirm the next non-destructive step?

Hey, thanks for the details. Your case is different from the original one in this thread. In that case, re-login helps, but for you it didn’t, plus you’re seeing No saved Bots yet and the *.cursorvm.com error. That’s a different scenario where an existing computer doesn’t reattach to the account after signing in.

Most important point. Your Grok Bot computer, Bots, files, and logins are saved on our side, nothing is lost. We won’t do any Reset, Recover, Update, or provision a new computer. This needs to be checked at the account-to-computer mapping level, not fixed on the client. This is an issue we’re tracking.

To look into your specific account, we need details that you shouldn’t post publicly. Please email [email protected] and include:

  • the account email that was used to create the Bots, if you have multiple accounts, please specify which one
  • the Request ID in the app right top corner of the chat > Copy Request ID
  • approximate timestamps for when access was lost, with timezone
  • the exact computer hostname, if you have it

With that info, the team can check the original computer and its data before making any changes. Once you’ve sent it, let me know here so I can keep an eye on it.
