I am writing to express my frustration regarding Cursor’s automatic update behavior. Without my explicit permission (while my update access settings remain at default), the software has again upgraded itself from v1.2.4 to v1.3.5. This follows a previous unauthorized update to v1.3.2 which already caused me to:
Lose critical files
Experience version mismatches in documents
These incidents have severely impacted my work and now leave me apprehensive about using v1.3.5.
I currently:
Lack confidence in the software’s stability
Require clarification on how to completely disable auto-updates
That sounds really frustrating. Software shouldn’t update without permission, especially if it causes file loss. Hope they give you a way to fully turn off auto-updates soon.
When I first started using Cursor I did agree on this and was frustrated with the lack of options to disable the updates and in the end I permanently disabled the updates from happening, but through getting used to using the application it got to a point where things just weren’t behaving and I needed to see if there was an update. So yes having an option to disable automatic updates would be good, I wouldn’t recommend trying to disable them outside of this app, just a caution.
