Today Cursor said “This is a very old version of Cursor. Please update to the latest version at cursor.com/downloads”.
Downloaded v1.4 for Mac ARM.
On install getting the message “An older item named “Cursor.app” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you’re copying?”.
Is this the only way to update to new version? I guess I lose all chat data, right? I do have readmes with compresssed context but sometimes its good to see old chats. Or is there another way?
However, its not quite straightforward. Mac security wont let you install it immediately. It will say “The file is corrupted”.
So let the warning screen stay open, while the installation completes. With warning still open, go to Privacy and Security, scroll down to security. There you will see “Trying to install Cursor which could be malware” - here click “Open anyway”. Then on the warning screen click “Cancel”.
Hey, don’t worry, you won’t lose any data because it’s not stored in Cursor itself but in the Application Support folder on your disk. Regarding the installation error, you need to allow the installation once in the system settings, as you mentioned earlier.
