After installation of Grok Bot on my mac, when I reopen the app, it will show ‘Setting up Grok Bot’s Computer’ and then show a blank screen which stays there. The behaviour is the same even though I reinstall.
Steps to Reproduce
After installing, I close off the Grok Bot app and reopen it. It will just show ‘Setting up Grok Bot’s Computer’ for awhile and turns blank.
Hey, thanks for the report. A blank screen usually means the app can’t reach your Grok Bot computer in the cloud from your current network. Let’s try two steps:
Update Grok Bot to the latest version. After 0.28.0 there was an improvement that shows a proper error with a retry button instead of a blank screen, so the app can recover instead of getting stuck.
Check your network. Connect your Mac to your phone’s hotspot and reopen the app. If it loads on the hotspot, change DNS on your Mac to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. That usually fixes it on your normal network.
Also, can you tell me which account you’re using to sign in to Grok Bot, the exact email, or are you using Sign in with Grok? This will help us check something on our side. Your bots and chats are safe either way.
I have updated to 0.30.0. It is still stuck but it is now showing a white circle instead of a totally blank screen. No retry button through.
Doesn’t work with phone hotspot.
Yes I am using the same email as this account.
I also noticed that when I first installed the updated version and login, it shows the interface for the first time but there is no identity (my name is not displayed on the bottom left). I can’t seems to create new bot also. It will return ‘Grok Bot couldn’t finish setting up’ error. Attached screenshots below.
Great find, thanks for coming back and sharing the cause. This matches what we were seeing: the blank white screen meant your Mac couldn’t reach your Grok Bot computer in the cloud, and Cloudflare WARP was intercepting that traffic. That’s also why switching to a hotspot didn’t help, WARP runs on top of any network. On your Windows PC without WARP, everything loaded fine.
For anyone who hits the same symptom, if you use Cloudflare WARP you can:
Turn off WARP and reopen Grok Bot, or
Use split tunneling or excluded routes so WARP doesn’t route Grok Bot connections.
If it gets stuck on a white screen again after any network changes, let me know and we’ll take a look.
