Cursor pricing included vs on demand

I know there’s generally some extra free usage on paid plans, and I upgrade/downgrade my plan level depending on expected usage that month. But I’m curious if I’m losing out by ever using the On demand feature, because it doesn’t seem to come with any additional free credits.
Is that right?
eg. Am I much better off if I run out of credit early one month, cancelling my Pro+, and re-starting it for $60 (which often gives me $80 credit), than just letting it run into a $60 on demand? (and only getting $60 credit)

Also note for the team: I think the “Usage limit” indicator should clearly state whether its talking about your paid plan, or on demand money. Its not a clear indicator really. If I have a pro+ plan and I use all my credit, I want to see 100% used in that indicator, not 50% and it quietly swaps over to the on demand backup. they are fundamentally different things. (especially if its true that a $ in one is worth more than a $ in the other. which may or may not be true?)

All that said - love the app. paired with opus its mind blowingly productive.
Cheers.

Hey, good question.

On-demand is billed at the same API rates as your included plan usage. There’s no markup. The real difference is that your subscription can come with bonus capacity on top of the guaranteed amount. Pro+ guarantees $70 of usage, and we often add extra bonus beyond that. On-demand doesn’t include any bonus. You pay exactly what you spend.

So your instinct is right. If you’re going to spend $60 either way, resubscribing gets you the guaranteed $70 plus potential bonus, while $60 on-demand gets you exactly $60 of usage.

About the usage indicator, this is already on our radar. We’ve heard similar feedback that it’s not clear enough about what’s included plan usage vs on-demand. No timeline yet, but your report helps us prioritize it.

Glad Cursor + Opus is working well for you!
