Grok Bot desktop on macOS is permanently stuck on “Reconnecting to your computer…”.
Environment:
Grok Bot version 0.24.0
Stable update track
Troubleshooting completed:
Built-in Retry failed
Fully quit and reopened the app
Confirmed the Cursor streaming health test delivered responses once per second, so proxy buffering is not present
Ran Recover Grok Bot’s Computer
Recovery completed “Getting ready,” “Recreating,” and “Starting”
The final “Reconnecting” stage remained stuck at 75%
Retrying after recovery still produced the same error
Cursor’s status page reported Grok Bot operational
Messages cannot be sent and saved conversations say they may be out of date. Please inspect the account/backend computer attachment and reconnect or repair the computer instance.
Hey @ian_Buswell
Your Grok Bot computer is healthy on our side, and your recovery did complete. The stuck part is the connection from your Mac to it - Grok Bot reaches your computer over a separate domain (cursorvm.com), and every attempt from your machine to that domain is being dropped at the network level. That’s why the streaming health test and status page look fine (they check our main servers, which you reach fine), and why “Reconnecting” never gets past 75%.
This is almost always a VPN or a corporate/security network layer blocking that domain. Two things to try:
Connect from a phone hotspot with any VPN or security/filtering agent fully paused - if it connects there, that’s the confirmation.
Have your IT team allow cursorvm.com and all subdomains over HTTPS (incl. long-lived streaming) and exempt it from TLS inspection.
Skip further Resets - the computer’s fine, so recreating won’t help. Let me know how the hotspot test goes.
@Josh2 - same symptom can have a different cause on Linux. Quickest check: try that hotspot test with VPN/filtering off. If it connects, it’s the network path above; if it still fails everywhere, please open a new thread with your Grok Bot version and error details so we can trace your account.
